Getting my 1st Handgun

Nice choice! That's a tried & true design, and since Colt no longer makes a civilian version of it, the Remington build is probably what I'd choose. Just watch out for the slide if you have big hands... I learned that the hard way! The shape of that frame allows your hand to be in the way of the slide as it ejects, and it acts like a deli meat slicer.

H&K 40cal. Is my favorite one. I have a 45colt officer edition but, to heavy and don't fit everyone's hands.

Yeah i just think the 1911 45's are amazing. Should be a good home protection go. Was also looking at the tauras Judge model i believe it is.

What does ammo go for these days $1 a round

.45 runs 14-25$ a box (50 rounds) for target loads here in michigan.

1911's are sweet, ive got a kimbet custom and I love it.

So few questions:
What will you be using the gun for?
(the 1911 A-1 is a fantastic competitive shooting platform, tons of modifications available)
Will you be getting your C&C license? (the 1911 A-1 is a very heavy and bulky weapon, will NOT be a good carry weapon)
Will it be used for home defense?
(it does fit the bill for this, although my recommendation for home defense is always a shotgun)
My avatar shows one of my C&C weapons, HK...although the most often carry weapon I own is a glock since it is lightweight and small profile.

.45 is a great round not to mention the 1911 is prob one of the best platforms out there today and has been that way since 1911 obviously. Remington is pretty pricey on their models, I would check out rock island arms. Their 1911's are solid constructed and reliable for half the cost of the "Remington" name your buying. The only difference between those two are the names and that's it.

Depending on how often you plan on shooting it, you may want to buy a 9mm handgun first.

.45 gets expensive as shit to shoot. Fun as hell but not to easy on funds.

Nice choice in model. Ruger makes a nice affordable one I've been looking into getting. Would love to have the extra cash for a Buear custom or night hawk custom but can't justify 2500+ on a handgun anytime soon if ever.

I had every top line .45 you can think of. Colt, sig, spring... none of them come close to my Kimber I have right now.. narrow grips, no action, minimal recoil.. a lovely gun... my all time favorite...

Thanks for the feedback guys..
semper can you link me the website plz/

Not going to carry around.. Mainly target practice and home defense. Would my girl be able to shoot this? shes 5'9 110 lbs lol.

I have only really shot one colt .45 and various 9mm 22's etc.
So reason for gun is that I always wanted a 45, a good home-defense pistol and definitely going to look into investing in a safe or top-notch safety locking case for it to.

Definitely want to try to go a bit cheaper if I can.

Depending on how anxious you are to get one in your hands, if you have some time and can be patient, you might want to watch gun broker for a bit. You will have to have it shipped to a FFL (any local gun dealer) and pay maybe $20-$30 for the transfer, but there is some good deals on there. It's basically ebay for guns.

For example:

Custom Springfield 1911 A1 .45 Storm Lake Barrel : Semi Auto Pistols at GunBroker.com

Do you have kids? A safe isn't really necessary unless you think some youngin' is going to get curious. Your lady will able to shoot it, but I wouldn't start her off with it. Let her shoot a .22 or something first. First time I took my lady to the range, I rented a 9mm. She shot it, dropped the gun, and turned bright pink :) lol That wasn't exactly the best idea I ever had.

I would steer away from a 1911 if you don't want to spend very much. How much are you looking to spend?

You can still get a .45 in some other platform and not spend over $600 for a new gun. Probably find a used glock, springfield xd, or s&w for $500 or less.
