:garza: I just thought I would share my excitement with all of you. I, just the other day, put some money down on a Schecter C-1 Classic: Transparent Blue with Brushed Aluminum color hardware with a Vine Inlay. I can't wait to get it out. :garza:

i have a scout looking for a pre 70 lp custom for me in white... if it exists I will have it inside of a month :D!

Well, since they only resumed making Les Pauls in late 1968, I think it took them longer than that before they started making non-standard colors. I don't think there's such a thing as a factory white LP custom from that period.

In '68 they had the Goldtop with P-90s and I think they started with the Custom with staple-top P-90s but quickly transitioned to Customs with a pair of humbuckers. By '69 they had changed the Goldtops from P-90s to mini-humbuckers and changed the name to Deluxe. The first color option I remember seeing was sunburst on Deluxes around '72-'73. When Lindsey Buckingham started playing a white Custom with Fleetwood Mac around '76-'77, it was a fairly new option at the time. Other funny colors like wine red or tobacco sunburst on Customs, or blue sparkle on Deluxes, first appeared in the late 1970s.

Standards and Deluxes play and sound better than Customs anyway.

I'm looking for the Randy Rhoads '81 Les Paul Custom, in white. I had one, sold it to a guy, and now he refuses to sell it back. It's basically the exact guitar that Zakk Wylde patterned his trademark guitar on. It's a LP Custom w/a 3 pc. maple neck, instead of Mohogany.

although sometimes scorned upon... the late 70's lps i have played have been among the best.

The same realization is hitting the Fender fans -- Strats and Telecasters up to 1979 are just fine.

I think a lot of these guitars got bad reputations because at the time, when they were new, they were being compared to vintage instruments that had a few years of play on them. A new guitar always feels sterile compared to a good used one. But now that those late-1970s guitars have a few decades of wear and tear, and they're good and broken-in, they're really not much different from the older ones.

both rad but unfortunately the older one is only one w/ orig elect.

I don't know what you would want the original pickups for. The Dimarzio's sound great, and they wont squeal at high volume. If you like the vintage look, you can always have a tech put a set of covers on the pickups. I think both Gibson and Seymour Duncan sell the covers pre-aged. I will say that I do like the "open" sound of original Gibson PAF pickups, but it has to be through the right amp.

Everybody has their likes and dislikes. I have never been a Gibson fan, and I don't like Fenders. I do like some Les Paul copies, I don't like Gibsons because of the fat necks. My first guitar was a 78' Ibanez (Les Paul copy) with pearl inlays. I prefer skinny neck guitars, this Schecter C-1 looks and plays beautifully. http://schecterguitars.com/ds_home_fl.htm Go to diamond series - products - c series. Transparent blue baby.

I'm trying to think of a time when I've turned on the radio and said "Wow, listen to that great Ibanez tone!"

It's all about how the guitar feels. I can put any pick-up in it that I want.

Personally I'd feel better buying a vintage guitar from a known dealer with a national reputation, there are way too many fraudulent sellers on eBay.

The problem is worse with vintage Fenders, though, since those guitars can be assembled from parts.
