dude you would lose customer base from the limitation on non-plat posting...peeps post here non-plat at first to see if they like it, very few are plat off the bat...all these restrictions and peeps won't even bother coming here

No no, you can still post a resonable amount. Say 20 per day. You just couldn't really get involved with the good bros and such if you didn't go plat.

You could read a lot of threads too, like 20-50 per day, but at some point it would say"

"Sorry, you have exceeded your maximum number of thread views for the day, please come back tomorrow or to read more instantly click here for some platinum specials good today only"

I agree on expanding palt features but don't think limiting non-plats further will really help palt subscriptions. It might just drive non-plats away.
 
if my posts were limited as a non plat I wouldn't of became plat

would have been to annoyed w/that and just not visited the sight anymore
 
ok ok.. so just kill the smilies for them and forget about the rest.
 
remember, non-plats also support the site by creating traffic. Traffic is what makes this site marketable (for sponsors), not plat memberships. George just gets to keep more $$ from the subscriptions.

This is one of those overzealous things I was talking about. Limiting people's posting/reading would just eliminate new membership. Also many of the non-plats provide great commentary, and I know some can't afford plat as I have been at a point where I could either get gas for the car or eat for a couple of days kind of poor in my life. Also you would alienate many members who are already plat and enjoy interacting with everyone who comes to the board. Plus a lot of people are timid for a long time before getting into posting but like to do research so limiting the number of posts people can read would again drive away new members. But there are a lot of free boards out there (none with the amount and quality of traffic as here) that people would turn to.

If you want to expand plat priviledges that's a great idea so that it makes it more appealing. You can't shit on a group of people and then ask them to buy their way clear of it, you have to entice them. Plus many members here post only rarely but like to read a lot and forcing them into paying for useage is an unrealistic goal. Things are going pretty well as they are right now, and turning this place into a dictatorial regime will disentigrate it rather quickly.

Just my two cents worth.

Personally I find it a bit harsh...
being a temporary plat (was gifted) and not being able to go plat after my 2 weeks for various reasons, I feel I should put 2 cents worth in:

1. Disabling smilies for non-plats is just not right...what harm could smilies do? Seriously...?
2. More k hits for plats, no prob.
3. Limiting # of posts/day for non-plats...sorry, for someone like me who has consistently and persistently taken his time out to post religiously every day, well it's not just. Speaking for myself, I've gotten mostly positive feedback for my contributions here.
4. Limiting # of thread views for non-plats is another no-no...

OK, I realize you gotta make money, but certain things are best left the way there are now.
It's enough non-plats cannot participate in certain discussions, better still do not have access to many pic galleries.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Great post Scotts...

I could point out one person right off the top of my head when i read the first line.. QuadsweepsSister... She's been crazy helpful in both the womens board and on the Training board. Why would you take that away from the members... hell I think George should give that girl plat for helping so much.

This is why lestat isn't running a profitable business ;)

Let's kill all our potential membership, that's a good idea. There are always going to be people on here that will not pay for platinum membership. However, nobody is going to come onto a site and fork out money to be a member just like that (with the possible exceptions of sacstatehornet and sir bomb). That is one of the good things about this site, you don't have to be a paying member to enjoy it. The trick at that point is to offer enough incentives so that people will fork over some rupees. Taking features away from those who bring traffic to the site and are potential revenue themselves = not smart.

A feature I would pay to have? the possibility to ignore WHATEVER person I chose to. Regardless of status...By ignore, I mean, totally ignore, not even want to know the person is posting... simply not there (not a line)

I'd pay for that and I thnk its reasonable

Gambino's right. Leave the non-plat features as they are, or at least without further restrictions. Start restricting them further and people will go somewhere else that offers more for free. But, boost the number of plat benefits for further incentive; make it a more alluring choice to upgrade.

You don't want to starve any rabbits, but you also should reserve the juiciest carrots for the more assertive.

especially re pix. Non-plats are not able to check out member galleries or pix uploaded from others' PCs.
 
I think G'man should offer up more to the platty memebers... and even more to the lifer's not take away from the non-plat members.

double k hits, more hits per day....

She's also great on the plifting board, I'd love so see more of her around the board. Maybe make her a mentor like B True et al.

I don't like the disabling smilies for non plats and the limiting the number of posts per day and number of thread views... Also, if that was the case than new members wouldn't be able to really peruse the forums and decide if they want to go plat or not. They'd look around, realize they couldn't see any more threads after a certain # of them and probably get bored and leave...I doubt they'd be like, 'OMG, I gotta see what threads I'm missing!' and go plat because of that, LOL. (Although you never know)

I like the idea about plat members being able to give out more hits per day though. :)

yes there is.

I give and get about 90% of my karma from plat members. I would basically be getting double the hits, and would be able to hit my best good bros more FREQUENTLY (once per day!) if I could dish out 40 hits a day.
