Garnering proof of a 4th dimension?

Carl Sagan described in Cosmos a theory regarding the fourth dimension. He said something to the effect that it extends at right angles from our 3-dimensional world. Scientists now are trying to garner proof of a 4th dimension by launching a satellite in 2007. Very exciting stuff people!

Its pretty much already there.....its been measured...well kind of....within a sigularity. Not to mention that multiple realities are true as well.....So therefore there are MANY dimensions. 1st level atomic particles cannot be pinpointed and appear to exist in an infinite number of places at the same time......The article doesnt do well explaining how this prob is going to work....any idea??
 
Gosh, I never studied any of this stuff in college, but from what I garnered from the article it would measure the high-energy gamma rays associated with black holes.
Then if the mass of the black hole is below a certain limit they woud conclude that the black hole couldn't exist under the theory of general relativity because it would have evaporated by now.

I'm not pretending to understand all the science. I just think it is fascinating. I would love to hear more about it so that I could really get my mind around the theories.
 
I know a little bit..... but I'm waiting for Samoth. I always like to read his answers. What a learn'ed young gent he is.

i believe (and heard) there are up to 11 dimensions, of course, our brains can barely comprehend 3.

i listen to this radio show called Late night with George Norry, its on 890 AM in chicago.

he always has interesting guests, mostly scientists, talking about other dimensions.

i usually cant grasp what they are talking about, seeing i dont know quantum physics :( lol

but its very exciting to listen to

Agree with oak-I believe their are multitudes of dimensional planes(and I believe some of these planes may very well hold answers to some of the greatest mysteries the human species have ever pondered).String theory is starting to crack the edges open into this(multiple dimensions,multi-verses,etc.).

Thanks Huck. What I found interesting is that both this thread talking about the satellite to gather data on the 4th dimension and the one about the speed of light and Heims theory all revolve around other dimensions existing. I think science will see some enormous breakthroughs in the next 5 years or so, the likes of which we have never seen.

I have a theory(or perhaps more a 'feeling')that ghosts,ET,Cryptids,etc.,are existing in a seperate,parallel dimensional reality,but are able to move throughout dimensional portals or doorways,in essence becoming extra-dimensionals.

Saw an interesting theory from a former NASA scientist on peoples experiences with NDE's(near-death experiences).He postulates that the dark tunnel they see,followed by the bright light at the end of it(with supposed loved ones there)is in essence the life force entering a black hole of energy(dark tunnel)and at the end of that tunnel the black hole is reversing itself into a white-hole,and an entirely seperate dimensional existence.

My mother started seeing other people in her house when she had cancer. This is before she really started getting bedridden. She was not alarmed by them, but she knew she would die of the cancer, then.

From what I hear from hospice workers, it is common for people to see relatives or other people not just at the moment of death, but weeks and months before.

I wonder how this would fit into that theory?

What about God?

I think that when the shell is starting to weaken,perception awakens(kind of tip-toeing between this and reality and the next forthcoming).The dimensional viel begins to thin for some,and they can then view those(that are normally dimensionally hidden)that are near or in visitation.Sort of like having some of your consciousness existing/percieving outside of its normally limited biological sensory capabilities.A 'peek' if you will.lol

there is a strong connection between life and death. i had one occurance.

my aunts house was 'haunted' by kids who drownd many years ago. anyway, i was swimming in the pool, which was built in where they died, i got out and went in the front driveway to dry off on the black top pavement.

i was standing there in the sun looking at the ground, when i saw, baby footstep appear in front of me that were wet... it was really fucked up, they made a path to the back yard.

anyway, ur mom wasnt crazy, and life does exist after death.

Samoth posted some elegant universe links a while back on string theory which theorized that there could be eleven or more spatial dimensions. Well worth a view if you haven't seen them already.

No, that isn't saying that there is only 4. It is only saying that this satellite is trying to gather data to prove the 4th.

Although I think if we lived in a universe with three time dimensions and one spacial dimension tachyons would be prevalent. That'd be pretty cool.
