gains?

What are your goals?

If you are training to be a runner, you must give yourself recovery time just as if you are training to be a bodybuilder. You wouldn't work chest and back the same way for 5 days in a row would you? Why do it with running?

i love running as well to a certain degree, but unless u wanna lose a lot of muslce id suggest cutting it down. the strain on ur joints is immense. have u noticed how all long/middle distance runners are really skinny with minimal muscle. where sprinters have lots of muscle. id say if u wanna do some good cardio do the cross trainer because it means no impact on the joints and u get the arms and legs, and all over body movement that running gives u.
if u do wanna run, try and get some sprint work in on the track maybe. it will keep u agile, as BB can often make one loose their speed.
im guessing u wanna run to keep in shape and have some stamina. well how about doing circuits of say 400m, and do like 6 with 60 second recovery. or 200m sprints etc and do so many. they are great for keeping ur heart pumping and they are really quite hard.
any distance cirtuits will be good and high intensity training for a short period of time is better than medium intensity for a long period of time.

I used to run everyday in the summers when I did cycles in my younger days. I was 196 at the time, cut, and looked great. SO the answer is, yes, you can gain muscle while losing fat by running. Of course, there is the flipside: I just had the first knee operated on to fix the damage that running did, and will need the other done sometime down the road. Running was meant for 150lb weakling cross-country types. Skip it, and opt for more joint friendly cardio. Swimming, elliptical trainer, in-line skating...whatever...but FOR GOD'S SAKE, DO NOT RUN!!!
