I used to only use the redi-ject sus when I was startin' out, and I thought that was just how big all needles were. I could actually feel them "crunching" through my quad.

I did the same thing bro. I probably went through 50 redi-jects before I read that you could put in a smaller gauge syringe. Damn! I remeber not being able to lay on that side of my body the following 3-4 days. OUCH!
