From Fatass to Badass - A Journal of Change

The logical part of my brain agrees, of course. The other part is remembering how strong I used to be and wondering how in the hell I turned into such a freaking weakling again.

But, like you said, 2 or 3 months and I should be throwing down some decent numbers. I just need to get through the baby steps again.

:baby2: :)

Since I'm hitting the gym on Sat, Mon, Wed I kinda had to start in the middle of week 1. But, I figured this early on it wouldn't hurt too much.

Week 1, Day 2

Squat - 95, 115, 155, 155

Military - 55, 75, 95, 115

Deadlifts - 155, 185, 225, 265

Everything felt pretty good. The last set of military presses felt pretty heavy, but doable. The squats were nothing, I wanted to pile on a little more weight, but I held back. I want to try to follow the 5x5 as it's layed out. I'm betting it was designed by people a bit smarter than me when it comes to lifting and seeing results. The deadlifts felt awesome, although on the last set the bar started slipping out of my hand. I had to reset my grip after the third rep. I may need to buy some lifting straps. I'm gonna give it another few workouts, see if my grip strengthens up much.

Overall, an awesome start to the day.

On the DLs, use some chalk.....and either a mixed or a hook grip.....if you're not training for a PL meet, then double over with straps isn't the worst thing in the world either....

Nice first couple of workouts, the progress over the next 6 months will be unreal.

Turtle, do you have a link to the document you are using for the 5x5 program? I'm looking into doing something similar. I, like you, have just slipped and gained the 100lbs in a year. I've got to get going losing this crap and I've made up my mind to do it. I just need the right plan.

Thanks bro!

If my strength is fairly decent (i.e. bench over 315, squat and dead over 400) then I've thought about entering a PL meet, just to see what it's like. I know I'd probably be on the very lower end of the strength scale compared to the other guys competing, but PL is pretty cool and I think I would like the experience.

The sticky about training at the top of this board has a couple of links to madcow's site on 5x5. I'm using the intermediate, but be sure to read through all of it and see what suites you best.

Good luck.

Nice lifting!!

Yup... agreed, with BiggT ... as I do the same... over/over grip with straps when my grip fails. I haven't used chalk yet and need to get some myself actually.

I'll give the chalk a try, as soon as I can find some.

Pretty easy day today. Went over and did 30 minutes of cardio on the old treadmill. Nothing too strenuous since I have to squat again tomorrow, but I knocked out a mile and a half. Just a little something to keep the metabolism roaring along.

More weights tomorrow.

Turtle, it's great to see that you're staying motivated? Whats the overall weight loss since you started doing the body weight exercises and cardio at your house? How is your diet looking? Using any supps?
