For those who get horrible wrist pain when curling...

I have always had this problem, my doc said it was from underdeveloped muscles in my forearms so I did tons of wrist work.

Didnt help, at all.

A guru at my gym said it was from overusing my forearms, I thought immediately this was BS cause there are many guys that workout twice as hard as me.

Years went by and all I could do was suck it up.

If anyone reading this gets an incredible pain when they open there hands after curling, similar to lightning bolts shooting up your arms, then I found something that might help.

After I am done curling I put the weight back on the rack and I do not open my hands for 20-30 seconds. Once the pain build up starts to go away I open my hands real slow. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN DOING IT THIS WAY. The longer you wait the less pain.

Try it out maybe it will help, every ones body is different by I know I am not the only one who has this condition.

I hope this helps someone out.

Thanx bro I will give that a try... but what would you suggest for pain while doing the curls themselves?

I've been dealing w/that pain for years, I'll give it a shot. Karma to you and more if it helps. Thanks!

The pain I got in my forearms while on dbol was ridiculous. It hurt SO fuckin bad I could barely do curls. Now that I'm off it's fine.

when I do preacher curls, the bottom of my forearms (the under-part of the arm closest to the ground when curling an EZ bar) KILL. I just suck it up, but the pain is intense, and I dont know what to attricute it to. could this be related?

my wrist is permanentally fucked by breaking it while snowboarding this last winter. It aches evrey curl, even when I overdose on glucosamine/chondroitin. SON OF A BITCH!!!!!

I get that awful pain too. Its in my forearms but closer to my wrists. it hurts like a bitch when i do preacher curls! and once the curls are done it hurts also.

I totally agree, I learnt that the hard way aswell. Instead of droping the weight and dying of pain. I rest the bar down, and slowly i mean real slowly, lol, open up my hands. The thing is, I dont get this all the time, and I'll re-cover what I said in an earlier post. I know the exact pain, it is well described as lightning bolts shooting up your arms. Well, I believe it to be an overuse injury and inflamation that just doesnt go away. I try to stay away from strenious activity on the wrists for a week in the gym, and the rest of a weekend, and the next week Im back to normal. Anti inflamatories might be of help aswell, such as Vioxx, etc.

hey guys u r heading in wrong direction. this is not the cure.

pain is due to the excessive Cortisol u have when u come off cycle AND when u train for burn, meaning lighter weights and more reps, which robs your bones of Calcium and it takes couple of months to get your calcium back in bones. i experienced this pain for years and now it comes only when i cycle, specialy with d-ball cos it supresses cortisol better then most and so the cortisol rebound is also more severe. if u r experiencing due to burn type training then reduce your volume or increase the weights. if u experience it right after cycle then taper with some 17-C A oral steroid. but the real cure is IPRIFLAVONE common name is osteofix or osteochin. this is the best blocker for calcium given to post menopausal women for osteoporosis. this will greatly help u avoid pain, will also help u retain your strength and muscle as cortisol is the culprit here. take @ 600mg/day for a month. and u will not loose your strength will retain more muscle and have no pain whatsoever in forearms.
always use dairy products they have best calcium source. ALSO supplement with Calcium Vit-D.

I disagree. I was getting this pain at 18 and I never touched anything until I was 23.

I have tried everything because it does not matter what kind of curl it is, IT FUCKING HURTS!

Light , heavy, low rep, high rep PAINNNNNNNNNNNN.

I should have said something months ago!!

Hey Bros, THIS WORKS for me atleast.
If you very gradually relax your grip on the bar the pain will dissipate. The slower you release the less pain you will feel.

Anyone every get that nasty pain that starts in the wrist and just seems to cramp your entire forarm? Mine always seems to go away if I move my hands closer together(doing strait bar curls).
Karma to bazilbb for the help, I think I will try that!

Do you get wrist pain when you curl with the "ez" curl bar? My wrists start hurting when I do too much with the straight bar. I have no wrist pain with the "ez" curl bar.

I have had this wrist/forearm pain long before I ever juiced, however I can understand the cortisol issue as being an elevated concern when coming off. I learned long ago about releasing my grip VERY slowly to relieve pain - this is the only thing that works for me.

I started using a thumbless grip on all my bicep exercises to take some strain off my forearms cuz they were getting too big compared to my bi's , ever since i switched to thumbless my wrists have felt great!..before that i could barely do barbell curls cuz the pain in my wrists was so bad.

ALot of these are good inputs but most people are just plain neglecting the most common answer for these types of problems. Especially in forearms lifters will tend to either have a muscle that is overcontracted or inhibited somewhere else which will lead the other muscles to compensate..its called reciprical inhibition. an example of this can be seen on a squat. If a persons feet externally rotate out then that is usually a sign of a tight soleus or gastroc...the result will be a weakened tibialis anterior, peroneals. When these imbalances are created the body is not working through the kinetic chain correctly. So my advice is to get someone in active release tecniques, trigger point, or massage to get in there deep and begin releasing those muscles. also guys this would be a great thing for you guys with lagging parts. There are alot of things that are genetic but when a muscle is not firing correctly, you will not grow. just some food for thought.

I have never juiced yet (decided i would learn before i started) but i always get that painfull feeling after i do my preacher curls with an easy curl bar. also, i do reps of 10 with a good heavy weight. Baz does bring up a good point about the calcium being leached from the bones. Just get your self a nice hearty dose of Calcitonin and some calcium ad ya want have to worry about that.

i also suffered most when i was 18-19 cos at that age u already have hormones at supraphysiological levels naturally AND we tend to train for more time and burn and also more reps. besides our bones already need all the calcium it can get cos they r growing in length and thickness and they can easily get deficient due to cortisol.
another observation which points to this fact is that if u leave BB for few weeks and then do the curls your bones will hurt much lesser cos cortisol goes back to normal levels due to lack of excercise and your bones stores more calcium then before.. this is from experience..
also try doing curls in hammer position for some time this will also help your biceps grow if they r stuck.
point of all this is that CALCIUM is the reason and cure for this problem. get it in your bones through as many ways as possible besides it is also an anabolic compound.

I highly doubt my problem was calcium, I drink more milk than a nursing calf. It isnt from being on a cycle either, cause It happens without juice.

A pro @ the Gym told me

A guy at the gym told me that I was allowing the weight to drop to low on the preacher curl and it was causing some "split" The cure was not to go down all the way on the preacher curl. Fixed the problem for me.

I too switched to a "thumbless" grip. This worked for a little while then I "fingered" it out. I was squeezing the shit out of the bar. My knuckles were going white. Took a few times to get used to but concentrate on a VERY lose grip. Hands become literally, Hooks. Works for me.

Plus think of it. You have 100lb + pounds being supported by a flat wrist at the end of a 12 inch (long) fore arm. That puts the weight a LONG ways from the fulcrum. Try keeping the wrist slightly flexed to remove some of the pressure from the supporting bone stucture.
