I going to compete in this. It's raw no shirts allowed.

I hope some of you local peeps can come out and compete. This is a great begineer level comp.

Plenty of time to train and your really just competeing with yourself.

Superheavy 226+? Wow, I wonder what they would think of a lot of the guys on this site... Sounds like fun though, I think I will start to keep an eye out for more small local stuff like that out this way...

Close... haha... Arizona- I think I wrote that in the middle of June....actually it is cooling off here now... down to a cool 97 yesterday!

Not long after I moved here a couple years back (the middle of summer) I realized that if you get lost out in the boonies a mile or two in the wrong direction- you most likely won't come back...

That looks like a cool little meet... I just found a cool little local AZ PL site... maybe I will get more info on stuff like that out here...

Parab,

Assuming I make it (and I most likely will), handoffs, wrist wraps, belt, chalk, whatever you need is yours buddy.

I will be there, looking forward to meeting you guys.
Damn, I wish I had more time to prepare.

I can make 225, although I could easily go higher. But I'd prefer not to be in IBench900's weight class. LOL.

Still trying to figure it out. I just came off a long layoff. Took the whole summer off. Started training again after Labor day. I'm almost back to where I should be, but not quite. I won't be able to do my best in only 5 weeks but I hope to make a good showing.
I plan on just doing maintance on Squats and Deads. Outside of that I'm not sure. Probably just work my way up to the heavier weights on the bench.

Has anyone contacted these people? Do we have to pre-register? When is the weigh in? Meet day? Or before :)

I spoke to Jim Henry 2 weeks ago. The weigh in will be at 11am.

It's hard getting a hold of someone there.

He said just you can just show up. He told me that they will not turn anyone away, even if the lifting goes into the evening.

Call there and ask for Jim, info is at the bottom of the flyer, he calls back.

Parab, I finally got my denim and it appears sized correctly (4th time was charm) I could have even gone a tad smaller but I'm tired of shipping and waiting and shipping.

Anyway, when you get your shirt, let me know, if you do a shirt day on the weekend, I'll come out to your gym and pay for the day.

I've started a modified militia now that I have the shirt.

Awesome. I'll let you know.

I want to back out with all my heart and soul because of having to diet down, I've become sickly from dieting, my tendons are destroyed, strength fell thru the basement. And I still have 6 pounds to go.

But my wife is forcing me to NOT be a quitter.

I may just open extra heavy and hope the weight crushes me.

Mike

Screw the weight class. It's not worth all the anguish.

Go lift and be happy.

I did the samething for the Sept meet and lost 25lbs in strength.

I have come this far, why back down.

If I get burned I learn my lesson.

One thing for sure..you gotta respect body builders, diet is such a difficult aspect.

Even guys like Ed Coan who have competed in so many different weigth classes, or George Halbert.

I think it will make me mentally tough, an aspect I am lacking in.

It's not about the weight class anymore, it's about setting a goal and not straying from the path. I don't care anymore about win or lose, I just want to go and lift for myself so at the end of the day i can say "I did it"

I've gotten alittle overweight myself. I'm at 235 right now, and want to be at 225. I plan on maintaining until about two weeks out. Then I'll start dieting down. Hopefully I won't have to dry out on meet day.

My other problem is as I've already posted I didn't have much time to prepare, I took the whole summer off. Didn't start back at the gym till Labor day. I have three chest workouts left. If I can't get to 400, I might not compete. I'm not going to try it in the gym, but I'll know by how easy 385 goes up.

I plan on doing 365 for doubles/triples on Sat. I'll have a better idea of where I am after Sat.

So close and I'm screwing it up already. Missed a gym day this past Saturday and diet is lousy. I have to up the overall calorie intake this week and stay focused.

I just called over there and spoke to Jim Henry (718) 961-6880 and one of the rules is no arching, someone complained and said it was cheating. I tried to explain to him that is was proper form, but to no avail.

I'm still going and competing w/ my arch, I trainned that way and will compete that way.

Last Y comp they changed the rules if enough people bitched. So if some volunteers would bitch to them and maybe we can make it arch optional.

No women's weight classes above 145?

Parabellum, I read about the arching in your other thread. Could they have been confusing lifting your butt off the bench with arching? Weird.

2Shy, they don't want to offend women over 145lbs, they call out the weight class before you lift.

It can be that they mean picking you your butt. We'll see this coming Saturday. I think they will waive that rule anyway if enough people want to arch.

Are you coming/competing? Last Y meet there were 3 women competitors.

Nope. I'm in the Midwest. I just noticed it in the flier. I know Spatts, for instance, is in the 198 class (if I remember correctly) so thought they'd maybe have a few more or at least list a SHW.

One of the Ys out this way is also holding a meet today. I didn't find out about it until earlier this week. I was really interested in it.

So much so that Red Evil has talked me into going to Tulsa this February. I'm excited about it ... and a whole lot nervous.

Anyway, good luck to everyone. Lift hard, lift heavy, have fun!

damn if i knew about this earlier i would be there in the middleweight divison (weigh 165) but i got another bench press comp tomorrow (nov 21st) .....but i would have loved to have taken the overall medal....
