Flat DB Bench

Maverick

New member
IF I can flat bench 60lb DB's for 4 sets of 8 reps..... what do you think my one rep max would be or should be ?

thanks orbs

get on the bench and find out, it's the only way.

Somebody else came here and asked... "I do 80 pushup... what's my max?"

Bench and find out. We haven't come up with a formula for solving this question yet :p

The formula for finding 1 RM on the bench press based on other things (like d-bell lifts, pushups, 40-yard dash time, how much money one earns, how many situps one can do in 60 seconds, how many women *or men if it's your cup of tea, no discrimination with the formula* one has slept with, etc etc) is very simple.

Get on a flat bench and find out.

Seriously, it just varies in every which direction with every person based on too many variables.

You've got the whole translation thing to deal with too: you have to adjust to the barbell variation and that will take some motor learning and you're not going to be proficient at it either, unless you've been keeping up with it. So the DB weight probably doesn't tell you a whole lot about your max BB weight.

Start training BB flat bench and see where you're at in a month or so.

1 RM of 75-80 pounds on flat DB press.....assuming you can get them out of the hole atthe botom

as far as a flat bench max - no way to tell that

Good point. Since you do primarily dumbells and are not used to barbell bench, as he said you probably have a 1 rm of 80 lbs on dumbells, so that is 160 on dumbells, and at most you will push up 10% more on a bar, if that. I would say anywhere between 155-185. However, as everyone else has pointed out there is not direct forumla that is going to answer this. Too many variables.
