First MMA class today

So I went to check out this pure MMA gym. Took a free intro class and then sat in on a regular class.

Intro class was scratching the surface of the three games, standing, clinch and ground. We did basic stance, movement, blocking using hands on the head, neck-tie and snapping people around, sprawling, then finally the basics of guard and a bit about trying to get inside peoples' guard.

The class I sat in on was much more fun and much harder. It was beginning kickboxing, today they went over jab-cross pyramids, clinching and throwing knees, and takedown avoidance plus knees.

All in all a fun time, and I was pretty pooped afterwards. I think I'll be doing more of this

cool deal I hope you like it and it works out for you..

what else did they teach you?

Nothing provides the a cereberal rush for me like combat sports. It is so tactical, yet so fast. The primordial nature of it makes my endorphins spew like a geyser. The exercise effect is appreciable also.

yeah im completely addicted as well.. my friends say i need to check my self in somewhere... but i just choke them out when they start a babblin

I had to take some time off from BJJ for injuries. I dislocated a knuckle, but still kept wrestling, then I started getting mat burns so deep they would bleed through my gi, now my shoulder is killing me from all of the kimuras I teach to newbies. I should be good to go for tomorrow though. I think it is safe to say I'm addicted.

i have missed just as much time training from injuries than i have trained..

i had complete ac joint replacement surgery on my left arm

i tore an acl

i separated my right shoulder 2x

i tore my rotator cuff

and then i ruptured 2 discs in my neck and was told by about a dozen doctors i would never make it back..... but nothing could keep me away.. im back now and better then ever!!!

casualbb,

glad to hear you joined mma. i think it's alot of fun, even though painful at times. good luck with your training.

Judo and Jacob,

hope the injuries heal up and all. i had a real bad ankle sprain not too long ago and never would've thought it'd take so long or that it would've interferred with training so damn much. i had to be real careful kicking cause if i hit in my in-step my ankle would baloon up real quick, and i couldn't pivot well at all on the bad ankle. needless to say i did alot of ground work for awhile.

hey Judo, see all the injuries you've gone through makes me realize i shouldn't have bitched so much about my ankle. all the credit to you for stickin with it.

TOday we did basic circling your opponent. Then I learned how to do hook punches, for which the footwork feels incredibly weird

Like a right-cross left-hook combo, I have trouble shifting my weight around for maximum power. Also, how to throw the left hook with power but without bringing my hand out and telegraphing the movement.

The classes are cool, but this stuff is really basic and it's kind of bothering me because I'm a fast learner. Also I'm teaching my sparring partners basic stuff that the instructor should be on top of. THey really should have the instructors going around sparring with people, cause I'm telling people stuff like "don't move in so close on your punch combos, you're losing power" and "dig your elbows into my jawline on the necktie, you can control my head better"... stuff you can know only by sparring or training the moves with somebody
