I ordered a box of cuban cigars from a web-site and they never came. I contacted the web-site and they sent me abother box, which I did get. Eight months later, I got a seizure letter from customs. Now, a lot of you are like me and see Cuban cigars as being no big deal. But upon further research, according to The Office of Foreign Assest Control (A branch of the Treasurery Dept.), it is against the law for an American citizen from buying any Cuban product ANYWHERE in the world. Penelties for violating this law include up to 10 years in prison, $1 million in corporate fines or $250,000 in individual fines. Civil penelties of $65,000 PER VIOLATION can be imposed (June 2007 edition Cigar Aficionado).
Some heavy duty shit. I called customs and told them I had no idea who sent me a box of cigars and if they were illegal, I didn't want them. Why did it take eight months for me to get a letter? Why did the first box get stopped, but the second one got through? They were both shipped from the same address and going to the same address. The best advice is to get rid of the letter and clean house. I would probably get a new hard drive as well, since I am paranoid. If you have any further contact with Law Enforcement, deny everything. You have no idea what was sent to you in the mail, obviously it was a mistake, because you NEVER ordered anything from anywhere outside the country. You can't deny getting the letter because it was sent certified and you signed for it. Just say you thought it was a mistake since you NEVER ordered anything from outside the country. Deny, Deny, Deny. Like someone else told me on this web-site, have your gear sent to your grandma's house (You get the point. Find a different address to have your gear sent to).
