I will be going in for my long awaited open shoulder surgery on Sept. 9th. Now, I'm nervous, LOL.

Does anyone have any knowledge as to how long of a recovery period this is?

Wish me luck:( :)

I was scheduled to have that same surgery done, went to the chiropractor, he told me to increase my bench weight and to put on some lean muscle mass, this was a while back, i asked him if that would make it worse, he said, well, you are having surgery any way, go to the gym and hit it real hard, try to put some mass around it, i did what he said. I avoided surgery all together, and I am so glad, at the time, they were making it an "emergency" surgery due to all the pain, I had an anterior labral tear and something else. That was about 3 years ago, so glad I was stupid like the surgeon told me I was, and went to the gym and hit it real hard and made it a lot better on my own. The surgeon told me during the consultation that I might not be able to use my shoulder like I used to be able to after the surgery and that there would be some nice scars around it where they put holes and whatnot, so I didn't have anything to lose. Thank goodness for my Chiro :) Just be careful out there with shoulder surgeries and get MANY opionions from DIFFERENT types of "doctors" :) Just my 2 cents :) :) :)

This will be the second surgery. I had a scope in January. They put a tak in there. I have had 2 docs look into it. The tak's not taking. This is a work injury to make it even more of a mess.

I can only move my arm about 15 degrees. I drop shit all the time. I have started to "carry" the bad limb and have major spasms in the traps. One shoulder is now higher than the other.

I, too, did the lift like a queen thing. Shortly thereafter, I became completely disabled. I can not sleep. I can not do half the things I used to be able to do. The tak has now repositioned itself. I am in constant pain and have a multitude of pain medication and muscle relaxers. I hate all of them.

This is my last option. Trust me, I do not want it. Hell, the scope was bad enough. Now, they have to cut enough bone and muscle to drive a truck through it. I'm not happy and have no idea if I'll be able to step onstage again.

Torchy, I am a Physician Assistant for a group of orthopedic surgeons. If you have any other questions, before or after your surgery, please dont hesitate to ask or P.M. me. We do this type of surgery every day.

I'm very sad for you - you sound so frustrated. :( It seems so tough to deal with, and I can't imagine how scary and frustrating this is for you....

Good luck, and I hope it all goes well from here..... :)

Had the same surgery 4 years ago, except the couldnt repair the labrum, recovery wasapprox. 6-8 weeks haowever I ended up tear the pec (minor) at that time. Did not want to go thru that surgery so I left it alone all in all i feel pretty good.
