first i know this is a power lifting board but there has been a lot of martial arts talk lately so i want to let you guys know.

there was a big ju jitsu/ grappling tournament this weekend in lakeland and about 150 to 200 people entered.
juice junkie and king samson who both post on these boards were in it.
jj won 1 st place in gi heavy weight division
and 2 nd place in no gi heavy weight division

ks got 2 nd place in gi middle weight division
and 2 nd place in no gi middle weight division

they have only been in ju jitsu for about 5 months and was in a division with people experienced up to either a year or a year and a half---they did a great job to place and just to get into this type of competition with people coming from all over --- numerous brazilian schools were involved and other forms of training were also in the tournament .
i have been doing jujitsu since 1997 and they are coming up on me fast--they are doing great
GOOD JOB BROS

Good job Juice Junkie! Your a little grappling freak! We should call you tapout 2! Your coming along fast as hell. Keep it up.

Juice Junkie has a good bit of strength. His legs are huge and strong and his upper body is pretty strong as well. In the next year or 2 he will probably unstoppable. Glad i can call him for back up when needed!

Congrats bro!

yea strenght really helps
technique is very important but when someone with a lot of skill and not much strength is putting a arm bar on you strength help to pull out of it(if you do it quick enough)

geno-o akido is stand up ju jitsu sort of
what you see steven segal do in the movies is aki ju jitsu. traditional akido is free flowing never stop the persons flow---it takes person by you while aki jujitsu takes person by them breaks something stopping the flow(we also learn this)
but akido is closly related to ju jitsu as it came from it i have been told

and yes steven is a bad dude only westerner to reach that high of degree

The only drawback to strength is knowing you have it. Using it in the wrong time and place can actually turn the tables against you. The best fighters are the ones who are strong as hell but dont need it. Then when that one time comes when it becomes a matter of who is strongest getting the submission you know you've got it. Techinique is where its at but strength can bail you out of trouble on occasion but it comes with a price. Usually a massive loss in wind.

Here's some pics if you guys want to take a look...

I didn't get any of me fighting in the gi and I was pissed about that cause I love gi fighting and I think I am better at it then no-gi. But oh well...

Here's a link to the board where you dont have to pay to post pics.
