Well ... doing 50mph on my ZX-11 Saturday morning 06:15 ... leaning into a nice looooong turn to the right ... and just in the apex of the turn, there is a pothole. My front wheel hit it, lifted the cycle out of it's position in turn, pulled it straight up, I went off the the road, through the bushes and slammed into a cement wall.

Now I'm at home. My bike is in pieces. My riding gear is damaged well and proper. My left han is busted up pretty bad. My helmet is split open. My upper lip is busted open badly. My knees ache like hell from the impact. I have a hole in my right ankle and I broke my back. I broke Verterbrae T7&8 and cracked T6. The doctor called me a 'Freak-of-Nature' for still being able to stand up and walk around following all. Apparently, if my back muscles weren't so dense and strong, I would've been paralyzed or dead ... without a doubt! She cannot even supply me with a back brace, because if we try to fit one which works with my hips, then it's too small for my lower back muscles ... and if we fit one which fits my back muscles, it's too big for my hips and just slide down. So now I have to depend on my 'freakish' back muscles to keep my spine aligned while I recover.

I'm goinog to be out of training for some time ... clearly ... and I am SO FRUSTRATED at not being able to lift! And I've started to make the 5X5 program work for me! Got to nice decent lifts ... but now it's all shot to shit! How long is it going to take me to DL 525 again? Or to bench 405? Or Squat 425? I am looking at at least 12 weeks out of training ... that's 3 bloody months! Arrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy fuck man you were lucky.. all the best with your recovery. Hate to see a brother of iron out of the game

fuck man, i was starting to wonder where you had been... i was kind of worried about you and now I see with good reason... TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF... I would come and help you out if you were on the same continent as me man... I feel terrible for you... Take good care of yourself and if there's anything I can do for you, let me know! Its good to have you back and I am happy that at least you are okay!

i pretty much took off 3 months and held a decent level of strength... 475 dead and 405 squat after all that time i only lost like 50lbs on my big lifts... i know you may be out longer, and due to atrophy from inactivity may be a deeper issue though...
im sure you will be back in action much sooner than you expect...
keep your head up bro, be thankful to be alive!

Be glad you are able to have created this thread, glad to hear you survived what could have been a horrific tragedy bro. You just recover and try to enjoy some down time...yeah I know, the hardest thing for any of us is to stay out of the gym, but again at least you will be back to it in no time...rather than never again.

i lead an active life too and shit happens when you do that. i know it could cost me muscle in the process but so what.. enjoy life and keep your hobbies going. thats the risk you take so don't feel down about it.

you will come back. muscle memory is real, just make sure you stay patient and let things heal up

also this is why i tell guys not to take time off from lifting for long periods.. cause stuff like this happens and you gotta take time anyway, so while you are healthy keep killing it. when you get hurt take time off. its totally good to let the body heal up anyway.. pro athletes have offseasons for a reason don't forget

good luck on your recovery...I highsided one of my bikes once because another bike cut me off in a corner (I walked with scrapes from that one)
hubs got hit head on 65mph on his bike two yrs ago...he lost a nut...could be worse! haha

seriously tho...be careful with your spine until it heals...its sucks but theres nothing you can do about it
I took a year off from the gym and it took me three months to get back where I left off...hubs took 6 mths off took him about 2mths
muscle memory is real
