I did. fuckin A it feels awful i cant even begin to explain not only the physical effects, but the mental effects as well.
anyone ever do this to themselves? i mean without having a legitimate reason i.e. injury

Im about to hit the gym for the first time since spring. Im terribly nervous to even walk in there. I feel so much guilt i just imagine everyone looking at me with this "look how out of shape and fat she got from not training" look. i know ive looked at people with that look before and now i'll be on the receiving end.

im skurrrrrrred

oh fuck no. no way
just imagine a grossly fat sloth

honestly, the guilt hurts almost as bad as the joints do

I bet that you are being more critical of yourself than 'reality'.

I have had a few long breaks from proper training due to uni or injury and elective surgery.

The most embarassing one for me was after my first season competing, I had breast augmentation, and had to hand in my research project for my Master's.

I ate really clean diet, just WAY too much of it. I put on about 20 lbs, and when I came back to the gym with new (still swollen) breasts, and my wee belly, I got asked if I was pregnant by at least 6 people

I wish I had taken down 'before' details, exact weight, bodyfat, and a few pics.

It will give you such a sense of accomplishment.

Fat is fixable

The longest I stopped working out in 9 yrs has been now. Last time I went to the gym was in Sept. Since then though, I worked out twice at my Mom's gym, but light weights and swimming.
It does feel awful when you stop. Mentally, I'm at my best when I'm consistant.
I've not worked out hard b/c of my bad health right now.
Don't kick yourself, you'll go back when you're ready

no, i always hit the gym

it's just my diet i get sloppy on

Between 6-7 months when I broke my clavical/had 2 surgeries on it. :(

I'm a fat piece of shit now. But at least I'm trying again :)

Was in the weight room the first day the dr said i could go back. Been trying to go 4 times a week since :)

Yes, it sucks. Do it smurf. Good luck.

When you DO get back to the gym and get "that feeling" o-m-g it will be great. Then you'll be hooked.

PS I just got back last week into lifting. I even did cardio today. holy shit I need it. lol

That is how I feel now. I've been out for almost a year being prego and then recovering from the c-section. I feel like I don't even know what to do anymore.

Smurf; great decsions - just really take it easy for a month or so until you are ready to go hard again - also get back on a high protein diet...look forward to some hot pics.

thanks for all the responses, much appreciated.
i got back there today and the first thing I was concerned about was that I initially forgot the combination to my lock loll yeah its been a while

so i took it easy. what i really just need is some physical activity/exercise. im not trying to break any records or do anything too intense.

i hit the elliptical for 30 mins at the lowest level (lol) and crap the muscles in my legs (whats left of the muscle) were screaming after about 3 mins lol and Im so out of shape that my HR was up in the upper 160s the entire time and I wasnt even hitting it that hard. wow fat girl
then i hit the tread on a 5.0 incline at a 3.0 speed for about 10 mins (wanted to keep watching the Dallas Washington game)
then i did the weighted ab crunch bench (maintained some strength in the abs somehow)
and the ab/aductor machines for some high rep sets and some stretching

overall, felt awesome to work some of that guilt out of my system lol

hint: one thing you DO NOT want to do whilst working out in a DC metro area gym is to clap and yell YEAH! when Jason Campbell gets sacked by Marcus Ware

a lot
i gained a lot over the last 2 yrs but mostly the last year since I started my new job and stopped exercising

just a lot. believe me, i dont exaggerate.

Sunroof, I think you did too much on the first day back.

Hate to be you tomorrow.

Also, awesome. Did you have any motivation to go back? What made you go back after such a long layoff? Was it something really insiprational, maybe a god-like person who made you decide to finally do it? Is he awesome? I'm sure he is.

really? you think I did too much? i felt really whooped (completed soaked with sweat, weak in the legs, face beet red, etc) but i just kept it low intensity (or at least I tried) and i worked out until the gym closed
im really nervous about how much strength I may have lost in my upper body. not looking forward to that first shoulder workout or bench workout, it's going to be pitiful,. hope I dont hurt myself. maybe KB will be nice enough to share his pink DBs

i've been there smuf.

wear big clothes. and a disguise.
but just go.
:)

feel ya on that one...living in a party city screws things up every now and then...last time done me in realk well...still trying to lose the belly

yeah, about 7 months off. i went back to the gym and my former workout partner, who i outclassed severely in every lift, was outlifting me and making me look/feel like a retard. at the end of the workout he looked at me sadly and said "you lost it, bro." i replied "laugh, bro. laugh now, because its the last chance youre ever going to have"

a month later i was warming up with his one rep max

bastard. id forgotten about that

anyway take pics, youll love them in 3 months

Well your knees probably haven't got much use since you got married.

yes, it fuckin blew.

i didn't train at all for 2 years. had alot of stress in my life and was very unstable trying to get my business of the ground, and a ton of other shit, including all my ex's financial/health/legal problems . took a backseat to alot of things.

regret it and i will never ever let it happen again or let myself feel like that again...i lost all my size...and eventually just got really skinny again. then i gained weight...all fat.so i was skinny fat. my confidence took a dump

but luckily muscle memory applies, and it motivates you to get back in there and go all out. only shitty thing is i'm so preoccupied with not letting myself get back to that point that i'm obsessed with training/diet again, sometimes above anything else.

i hear you on that last part but hey, you're far better off being preoccupied with being healthy (training/diet) than not being in the gym at all.
awesome that you got back in there after 2 yrs
how did it feel when you first went back?

it felt awesome...i really missed it when i went back. didn't really focus on lifts, just getting my form correct again. like i said, your body responds pretty quickly after being sedentary so long, so that alone motivates you.

feels nice to actually get compliments on my body again

Yep, and it sucks big time.

You feel mushy, stamina is down, everything is harder to do and it's insane how frustrating it is because you can't just jump where you left off.

GAH

Take it day by day Smurf
:)
