I do not believe a word of what I have written. I found it amusing how none of you could refute it though. I myself couldn't have - until I read this book: Guns, Germs, and Steel, by Jared Diamond.

In it, he explains why environmental factors lead to technological development, or lack thereof. He completely refutes the notion that genetic superiority has anything to do with why certain civilizations have done better than others.

To give a few teasers:
- the fertile crescent had more varieties of grain than any other region on earth, and the grain had larger seeds
- many regions completely lacked domesticable large animals. Africa, for instance, lacks such animals - Zebras' tempers are too fierce, as are Hippos'. Elephants can not be domesticated, only tamed. Etc.
- A region must be able to support a dense population for the societal developments that lead to technological developments. Some regions could not do this.
- a bunch more.

He gives many details and lots of evidence for all his points.

Read the book! You all were trying to disprove me, but couldn't. This book will give you the knowledge to do so.

europe the most technologically advanced? hmm, i don't think so. europe gets most of it's technologal uprgrades from Japan and the u.s. the u.s. military for example is the world's most technologically advanced and there is no denying that.

i know it was istanbul, it was formerly constantinople. it was overthrown in 1453 by the ottoman turks. that indicates that the muslims did not previously overthrow the byzantine empire as you had implied earlier.

Their empire was destroyed by Europeans in the West and Muslims in the East. It was replaced by European imperialism and technological advancement after a period of "dark ages".


I believe I did. And sponge has not made any good points yet. I fully acknowledge that the Muslims did in the Eastern Roman Empire. And then the Europeans came back with the Renaissance and Industrial revolution and became the biggest powers on the earth.

a) if they were so superior why were there the dark ages? shit, they forgot most everything! and concrete.... concrete! we wouldn't be repaving our roads constantly if we hadn't lost the formula! i'm still amazed with the technical capabilities we still don't know what the formula was...
