DOG FIGHTS.. what to do? how to break em up???

i just had a dandy ass fight with my mom's dogs... we ended up getting them apart but not after my mom was bit (real bad, stitches needed)... they go at it like, well, like mad dogs.

mother and daughter dogs, boxers... the mom usually backs down (she's old) but last week she had a seizure and after she has a seizure she starts feeling pretty good about herself... and today she felt real good and they went at it...

i was dumb but i jammed my hand in the one dogs mouth, fortunately i did it so her baggy ass cheeks were covering her teeth, so she was biting herself (lots of blood) and not me...

they had each other and would not let go...

i've heard you should let them go until they are done, but man... they are vicious about it... how can i sit back and watch??? one of them is old and i dont want her getting hurt, hell i dont want either getting hurt..

one good thing, my doberman kinda was confused and didnt know what to do so she stayed out of it... the only time she got pissed is when i got near it, she started looking like "that's my daddy, i kill you if you hurt him"...

the first thing about breaking up a dog fight is to stay away from it. the second thing is to use water. Spray 'em down with a water hose. Least that's what I've been told. I know what you mean about wanting to do something - dog fights are not pretty. I have always wondered how/why people enjoy them.

Well as hard as it is to sit through, it is just something that has to be done
They will just go at it again until one wins and the other backs off.

After they settle the hierarchy, all will be OK..

letting em go??? what about injuries? like an ear or paw? i honestly think the two of em could go till death... neither ever backs down unless the old one is sick, then she tries to avoid it.

A few weeks ago there was a huge kitty rumble in my hood. I called the cops and told them there was a fight outside my apartment. They asked for descriptions of the people involved. When I told them they were cats and not people the police dispatcher got pissed.

All I'm saying is that if you break it up before they settle it, they will fight again and again and again..

It's either one big fight or a bunch of them...

IMO, Few domestic dogs that live together will go to the death.
They are in the same "PACK". Not rivals.

Now, if you were speaking of a dog fight between 2 dogs that do not know each other, then I would say YES, break it up by hosing or smacking the one that appears to be winning with something...
