Does fiber SPEED UP or SLOW DOWN digestion?

Lumberg

New member
Hey guys I was under the impression that fiber speeds the bolus through your gut but I just read that it slows digestion down.

I have avoided fiber in my prebed meal for this exact reason but woiuld love to incorporate it.

I know that fiber keeps things moving smoothly down there and that it should be consumed but the effects on the speed of digestion is what I am interested in.

Thanks

JC

you were right,

fiber speeds digestion

There are two forms of fiber: soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. This slows digestion and the rate of nutrient absorption from the stomach and intestine. It is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables. Insoluble fiber is found in foods such as wheat bran, vegetables and whole grains. It appears to speed the passage of foods through the stomach and intestines and adds bulk to the stool.

Functions
Dietary fiber provides a feeling of fullness and adds bulk in the diet. This assists digestion and elimination.

check your stool. if your turds float your fiber intake is sufficient..
Heres a stupid question....
If the Turds float, doesnt that mean you have gotten alot of Insoluble Fiber? One who has consumed alot of soluble fiber should also have a good healthy movement but it should sink?
