urinalysis 2 months ago revealed microscopic blood in urine. blood tests for kidney function, etc revealed no abnormalities. there's still a kind of discomfort in the kidney area (that started days before the urinalysis). IVP and cystoscopy w/ retrograde pyelogram showed no abnormalities. question is if the bloodtests are normal, is there a need to be careful (no gear, low protein,...)? thanks again to all

If your tests came up allright, you shouldn't worry. Microscopic hematuria( blood in urine), has lots of causes, and your doctor covered most of them( infection, stones, and other that you don't want to know). Hematuria from AAS usage comes from very high dosage/prolongued use( I read a case when a guy was doing 50 d bol tabs a day and got it) and would show in renal screening tests.Extenuous effort can cause even macroscopic hematuria ( seen in marathonists and other sports).Another common cause is uretral ( penile conduct for urine)trauma.
I don't think, based on what you told, that you have to lower protein intake.
Repeat the urianalysis and see if is still there.
Always consult your doctor, this is only a discussion board.

RIO2001,
thanks for the reply, i had the original urinalysis done after i woke up one day with pain in the kidney area. this was after being on vicodin and penicillin for a few days from a delt abcsess infection (got pretty bad), and the vicodin said dont use if you have liver or kidney disease, so maybe this was part of the cause? urinalysis a week later revealed no blood, but still had ivp and internal ivp, so i guess im ok?

The answer lies on your deltoid infection. You see, damaged muscle leads to an increase in blood myoglobin, a large molecule that strains or even hurt the delicate renal filtration system when it passes. After you took care of the abcess, everything came to normal and your kidney healed.

RIO 2001,
do you think the pain is more of a concern even though the tests are ok? why did nothing show up on the x-rays, and it still hurts ( a little)

The kidney area is very sensitive. If you are too concerned about it and keep squezing and rubing it it may prolong the tenderness(pain).
If your exams are allright, and your doctor cleared you from a renal problem, take some aspirins, put a bag of hot water onto the area and forget about it. If it persists or changes, go see good ol'doc again.

Like Rio said, the Microscopic hematuria can be caused from many different things, and as for the post above about the x-ray, (sorry I started typing and cant remember who posted it) Something like this wouldnt show up on an x-ray unless there was an obvious enlargement of a specific organ. X-ray simply deals with the density of radiation passed throught the body. Hematuria can be caused from something as simple as an infection or even a perforation or ulceration of your bladder or urethra. If the blood discontinues and you still have pain in that area it might be due to stess possibly. I had $7,000 of lab and endoscopic procedures done only to find out that The bitch that I was dating at the time was stressing me out so bad it caused the symptoms of renal problems. Your test came out good so I probably wouldnt worry much about it unless it continues for awhile.

now its a year later and have gone to the er twice with the same pain when it gets very intense and i cant sleep or sit still at all and have fast heart beat and feel weird...im still clean and all tests still negative (blood tests, ct scan,...).
its the same pain, always there just sometimes gets really bad and painkillers dont work...WTF??
