Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), also known as Butylhydroxytoluene, is a lipophilic (fat-soluble) organic compound that is primarily used as an antioxidant food additive (E number E321) as well as in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, jet fuels, rubber, petroleum products, and embalming fluid.
It may also have effects on herpes/cold sores and other uses.
Anyone know anything more about this chemical?
The MSDS says "Cancer suspect agent".
This means it could cause cancer, but hasnt been proven to do so.
Safety (MSDS) data for 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol
It has been proven to cause cancer in mice, however.
