When I used to do leg press, I reckoned that by the time I'd loaded the thing up there was just about enough energy left to unload it again. Any sets in the middle were a bonus.

A lot of people can't lift the 100lb plates on the 45° leg press machine, so I feel it's only polite to remove them.
I can agree with that. It is only polite to remove people who can't work with the 100lb plates.

Whist this is true for WORKING weight, it's still a poor assumption.

Warmups require starting lower than 135 even if you are woking up to over 300lbs...

45 (bar) x 20
95 x 15
135 x 10
185 x 8
225 x 6
275 x 4
315 x 3...

I am saying this from what goes on at the gym I go to now. At my old gym people ALWAYS racked the weight back up but at the one now there is always a 45 on the bar.

yes.. unless the guy waiting to use it is a complete douche in which case I walk off and leave the sweat covered bench or blood stained bar for him. The guy who wears a leather kilt with nothing under it for example, or the little richard simmons look alike who once threatened to get the manager because I wouldn't let him in the curl cage

You have a point actually!

I can imagine some people actually getting offended by you stripping the bar down instead of leaving the plates - they're thinking that you are thinking that they can't go that heavy!

Pleanty of people don't warm up correctly and go right in to 60%+ of their RM. If that's the status quo at your gym then your damned if you do and damned if you dont!
