Do you like where you live?

I fucking hate my dismal city. I just got back from Colorado to do some city shopping and will be moving to Boulder here shortly. At that time I will be bumping this thread with a more positive reply.

It doesn't rain here as much as people think, it mostly comes in downpours. It snowed off and on today. I live in a city on the border of Oregon, property is a better value than it is in Oregon, plus in a matter of minutes I can be shopping anywhere in Portland tax free. We have a high Asian population, none of which know how to drive. Other than that it's pretty cool.

Long Island is great, just expensive and the winter can be rough. Being able to hit the city whenever is amazing.

I love where I live. People are nice, zero crime, and I have everything I need within a short drive or walk while not being in a major city.

My city isn't a place you'd want to visit, but it's a comfortable place to live. Especially my neighborhood, which was built up between 1890 and WWI for the most part.

The four seasons
universities/Tech/Hospitals/culture
I love Boston/New England

fuck no!

Hurricane threats every year, historically annual highest crime rates, lowest ranks in education and almost every other relevant indicator ...

The day I retire I'll be living somewhere in the Ozarks (Harrison, AR/Branson, MO) fresh water fishing and paddling my canoe around in a low cost of living/low crime area. The only disadvantage is you get a lot of "I want you to meat my wife and my sister", butt there's only 1 woman standing there :worried:

no banjo music!

I love Wisconsin. I'm a midwest girl so this is perfect for me. And I'm also 15-20 mins from the lake and the city.

The people in Wisconsin are great, but I couldn't live there.

I lived outside Milwaukee (Menominee Falls, specifically) for about eight months and it was just too harsh. I was hours away (literally) from making an offer on a house in Brookfield around 2003, but instead moved to a Chicago suburb.

I tried custard once -- it's a bit heavy for me.

Never got to snowmobile there -- that's supposed to be the shizzle.

And on Sundays, you could run every errand you had in 45 minutes as long as the packers were playing. There's be four cashiers in the store and not a single other person in line.

Yep, I live in Brookfield! I love it here! It's a great place to raise kids IMO

It's perfect. Big enough that people are not in your business, small enough to retain a sense of community. Very short and mild winters, and even when it gets hot in the summer there are steady winds from the ocean. The people are attractive, active, and very friendly. The water is blue and clear and the diving can be amazing. Cost of living is very low and I'm close to my family. There is a good filming community (hello, dwayne Johnson working out st my gym), surf community (one of the top surfers in the world lives here) and of course, diving community. Love love love it here.

I hate where I live. Two shootings in 9 months less than 7 houses from mine, crazy teenage bitches casing my house, meth addicts across the street and an asshole that crashed into my front yard in the middle of the night and actually had the brass ones to ask me to tow him out with my truck. Honestly, this neighborhood looked nice and middle class when I moved in. I had no idea that I had entered the crazy zone.

:worried:

Thread excuse to brag about my city.

Nearly All Of The World's Best Cities Are In Australia Or Canada

We got beaten by Sydney, WTF?!

There is no way that Sydney is better than Perth in quality of life. LMAO at Sydney getting 100 for infrastructure, tell that their commuters.

b0und (I love my city)

it cost's $16 american for a 16oz bottle of water and a pack of tums in sydney (hell, in australia in general). quality of life?? at those prices, most of the people i know would be living in a cardboard box 'neath the underpass...jus' sayin'.

Yeah, butt you get paid $75k to work at BK

I read somehwere recently that said it costs more for a condom than a prostitute in India.

Very happy with where I live, but that's because it's in two places. Most of the time I'm in SoCal in Somis, which is 20 minutes from Zuma Beach, 30 minutes from Santa Barbara, and 30 minutes from West Los Angeles (or 3 hours from West LA on Friday afternoons, LOL), and has near perfect weather all the time (except this morning with a layer of ice...). The only thing I do detest here, is the political atmosphere and the rude attitudes in public. Therefore, we have a house in North Dallas, where we can spend enough time to recharge our Rightwing batteries, and find people with good manners on the roads and in public, and of course we can get the best steak dinner ;)

so the conservative righties are courteous and cooperative and the liberal lefties are rude and selfish?? kinda flies in the face of reason, yes?? you keep talking like that and you're gonna give us a bad name :lmao:

Since when did Dallas drivers have good manners?????

Where I live is ok..north texas about 45 min from oklahoma. Its boring and there is nothing to do but I like the small town and its 10 mins to the nearest major city and 45 mins from dallas. I actually like my neighborhood a lot....reminds me of something out of the fifties...kids playing...neighbors...out grilling or at each others houses talking. Great place ro raise my son. But texas itself is very very boring....absoultley nothing fun to do activity wise.

Point taken, Australia is ridiculously expensive, overpriced in fact.

Perth, if anything is even more expensive than Sydney. Quality of life is very high though. House prices, car prices and anything else are over the top though.

Paying more than 3 times the US price for a nice European import sucks.

b0und (I still love it here though)

it's one of the most beautiful and dangerous (you guys got like a shitload of deadly animals, etc. over there) places on the planet...and expense is all relative...you have lots of free shit there, that we pay out the ass for here...i was just being a wise ass.

and, for the record, yes, i kinda like where i live...northcentral pennsylvania is pretty beautiful and pretty laid-back and real estate, etc. is pretty reasonable.

Gotta be nice and smile in Texas. Way too many of those people pack heat for anyone to be too much of an asshole.

And good luck tying to steal shit too. Some local will shoot you and be immediately elevated to local hero status.

I'm packing "heat" :wavey:

Chicago 'Burbs

Almost enough said

Snow is cool for like 3 days

After that, fuck it. Midwest finesse for life tho. I can't leave my family. If they all died, I'd be on the coast.

I LOVE FL, I've lived in CT, CA and NJ and Florida is my favorite so far, I live in a small alm town that has everything I need and Orlando is just an hour away, beach, lake or river is 5 min drive, can go fishing everywhere, parks everywhere, it's really great ^_^

You guys could move back to O-town!

There's like nothing there. And a pretty high COL. I wouldn't mind living somewhere like Abbott, IL, though.

I've done very well where I am now, with an even better short- to mid-term outlook. Unfortunetly, this state rolled over and died years ago.

*sniffles*

*misses teh badgers and cows*

I'm totally visiting you one of these days. I always had a fascination with Australia when I was a kid.

It's a really nice place. There's a couple pretty nice c-level neighborhoods, a few huge mansions on the lakes, and a lot of unfinished pre-bust housing development on the Pabst lands. Lots of HOA controls there. I don't know if there are any good magnet schools, though.

My parents say they don't plow as well as they expected, lol.

i guess there wasn't a category for gigantic fucking spiders. peace australia.

Huge spiders scare me. Thank goodness they don't get big around here.

Mainly it's people in general; not just drivers. Try asking somebody at Lowe's in CA if they have a water cooler in stock... They'll either ignore you, or take a guess just to get rid of you. In Dallas, they'll walk you to them and know everything about their stuff. On traffic, have you driven behind a Prius going 53mph in a 65 zone, persistently in the left lane, refusing to obey "slower traffic keep right" in order to force you to save gas that you are paying for, or have you put your signal on to get over a lane, and had a Mercedes floors it to close up the gap because you must not be in front of their important ass? That's Los Angeles... In Dallas, nobody's perfect, but it's a night & day difference. And just for the record, I'm not saying either Left or Right has good or bad manners. That's probably about equal.

Bottom line is I'm happy with where I live, and with some merits of each place.

i was just joking about that...and, it a city environment, i never use my turn signal to change lanes cuz everyone wants to cut your ass off when you do...even little old ladies...that's just a city thing in general.

And another reason why I love where I live...

Lol, I had this little old lady flip me the bird cause I didn't let her in my lane.
I wasn't being a bitch I just didn't see her.

Ok, ok I was kinda being a bitch.

But just a little one. :qt:

I havent seen a spider in a YEAR.... I so love FL....

DON'T come to SoCal if you don't like spiders! We have black widows everywhere, and and a few other poisonous house spiders, along with enormous (but non-poisonous) tarantulas and other giant (egg-sized) outdoor spiders. You can't walk into any garage, shed, or under any tree, without getting a face full of web. I freaked myself out a few weeks ago when I went to grab a big wad of what looked like black rug fuzz (we have a new area rug in that room with black pattern), and it moved in my hand :xeye: . It was a black widow, but luckily was shocked as I was, and it didn't bite....

My wife and I have both been bitten in bed several times, and it's just part of the trade-off for the weather  .

I lived in L.A. a while back (99-00) and the weather was awesome.

same happened in my house in CR but it was 8 legged scorpions (alacran) we had everywhere, never got bitten thankfully, my husband did once, all I worry about here in FL is fire ants when I walk the dogs ;)

Absolutely. It's home. Moved a round a bunch, saw some other shit, knew it was time to come back. Got family, friends, amazing food, the culture I grew up with. It's not perfect, but it's my little space and I'm enjoying being back here.

Only challenge is that I'm clearly on the path with my boo to move in together at some point in the next year or so and then it's the big time decision making moment (she doesn't live here).

We get lots of palmetto bugs around here when it's super humid....they used to be all over the place at night around our driveway. Didn't really bother me, though. Kind of icky, sure, but as cw said, every place is gonna have some sort of pest issue.

Most of the time. Winter is from October till April though.

I hate it when those fuckers (literally) fornicate on my damn hair, from that small walk from the car to the office they crash into my face and hair :worried:

I have a permanent scar on my thigh from a stink bug. In november one got stuck between my wetsuit and my leg. When I got in the water it released it's stink chemicals as a defense and I felt an intense burning, but I was with a class and soldiered on. Once I got out like 2 hour later I realized there had been a bug in my wetsuit (it was dead), and there was a yellow mark in the shape of the bug on my leg. Within days that yellow mark (a chemical burn) became a scab, the scab became a scar.

Lol, gross story, I know. I'm still so pissed about it, especially with bathing suit weather coming :-(
