Yeah I noticed that too. A lame ass attempt at getting people to buy plats if you ask me. I just lost respect for the guy running this place.

When google stopped providing us with a free search, all non-plats lost search entirely. The database is so huge that search can bring it to a crawl. We are still trying to decide what to do with non-Plat search. I hope you will consider a Platinum Membership - your support keeps us online.

I can see the 90 sec wait from a "business" perspective, but from a users prospective its a bit extreme.

20-30 sec should be suffice.

Of course we need everyone to upgrade to a Platinum Membership, but the delay is not even about that. If everyone is searching at the smae time, given that the database has been build since 1996 and is huge, it slows the site too much to have no restriction on search.

1. I agree with this one: The bottom scroll bar must be used to see the entire screen. The style needs to be 'liquid' at a less wide width. We'll get on this - I hate it too.

2. How do I describe "fagged up" Okay, any chance you can take a look at the way the old quote box looked side by side with the new one? For lack of a better word the old one was businesslike. In comparison, the new one looks cartoonish. I'd stick with the blacks and grey tone scale, and the word QUOTE doesn't need to be huge and in bright blue font and stand out over the original quoted person's name. I don't know how to say but to me, it looks cheesy.

Oh, finally (and this is just me being petty), I do miss the "guest" browsing feature for most recent posts ... I used to just drop in without signing on, scan through some posts and be forced to either sign on to respond to something interesting or get back to work. I used to get exposed to a LOT of advertising that way, too. I bet half the members never knew you had a banner for Zwinkies up there for a helluva long time

I agree about the quote box. The colors make it hard to read (the text is too light of a gray) and the word Quote doesn't need to be there at all. Everyone knows its a quote because it says "originally posted by soandso". The word Quote is the most visible thing in the quote. It distracts from what is being quoted. (wow could I say the word quote more times in one post )

This is a very cool new feature called social bookmarking. It allows you to share posts here with other people around the world who may not be members of EF.

For example, let's say Rick Collins decides to publish an article here about decriminalization of steroids. Those links allow that article to escape the confines of EF so the world will get access to it and we can make our point of view known.

As far as kudos and brickbats go --

Kudos: Search for non-plats is vastly improved. I think the time limit feature is a good compromise to keep freeloaders like me from abusing the database. I also like that "Find more posts by..." search returns more than eight results for no-plat scum now. Thanks for that.

Brickbats: Graphic design is "meh", especially the appearance of quotebacks. And, when I go to my profile page to check Subscribed Threads, too many old threads that don't have any new replies show up there, I'd like to see a return to the old algorithm they used for displaying the Subscribed Threads.

Still, thanks for the effort you put into all this.

I cant stand it, my pc is a few years old, but it was top of the line dell 3 yrs ago so still not a bad pc, I CAN NOT FIT THE WHOLE SCREEN if i shrink down the text is too small for my old man eyes, otherwise i have to scroll left to right to read it all,, just annoying....
im not a techie, but i tried everything i know how to do,,, if i cant fix it, i wont be on the site too much as it makes me mad scrolling back and forth and if i am on a cycle forget about it i will smash my pc and eat it..... a lil roid rage humor

I just found another problem. The add to favorite threads option in the thread tools menu is gone. I can still get to my favorited threads in my profile page but I can't add any more. I hope that's just temporary.

I dont know about "organic" but it certainly ain't "orgasmic"!

1. Whats being done about the screen size issue. ie having to use the bottom scroll to see the whole page.
2. Whats being done about sub threads. They are all over the place & new pages are not being highlighted like they used to be. ie you dont know if there are new posts since your last visit.

I have not trialed much of your new "features" because I'm too frustrated with the above. I do not object to change, but it must be for the better. I'm not sure if this is the case here now at EF.

^ Yes. Karma box pops up behind the post, so you are sort of flying blind. You can tab through the options, but not see what you're doing. Sorry if I redded anyone.

It has NOTHING to do with where the post I'm trying to award karma to is sitting on my screen, the karma box drops DOWN and behind the next post. The ONLY post I can award karma to is the LAST post on a page, literally.

I can't be the only one with THIS problem!

No. Same problem here. Karma box is hidden behind the post just below the one you want to give K to. Scrolling just moves the whole mess up or down.

Strange indeed. For anyone who can't get the Karma window to popup, I right click and select Open in New Tab (using Firefox.) Works fine that way.

I upgraded from Firefox 2 to 3. Didn't even know there was a new version out. If you go to "Check for Updates" it doesn't show version 3. You have to go to Mozilla to download it. Now I can K again.

Ya mozilla doesn't force upgrades to different major releases. So, in version 1 you will only see updates for version 1, and 2 for 2, etc. Glad it worked out for ya.
