Do Competing Bodybuilders even hit abs that much?

I mean dry on stage, your abs are comming out regardless. How often do you guys hit abs when preparing for a competition? I notice my abs pop out at a low bodyfat regardless if I hit them or not. What do you suggest when training abs, because honestly I stop hitting them as I really don't see results when my bodyfat is low..

Some pros hit them regularly and some like Dexter Jackson don't ever hit them. I train them often, every other day, when I am getting ready for a competition. However, my abs are on the thinner side so they do not pop out as much so I am working on getting them a little thicker. My friends with thicker abs still train them when getting ready and they already have thick abs. I just can't see being lazy or taking the easy way out when getting ready for a show, I mean hitting abs for an extra ten minute is nothing compared to all the other things involved to get ready to get on stage.

I have been hitting abs (strength training though) and noticed it has helped alot with my lifting.

Ab training isn't about fat loss, it's about developing the ab muscles.

You have to be lean enough for the abs to be seen through the fat and skin, but the muscles themselves have to large enough to protrude through them.

I train them once a week and only 4 sets at that. my abs right now are strong enough to shrug off a hard punch as long as im flexing

Many only do actual ab exercises pre-contest. Strong boys like Jonnie Jackson work their abs as they lift huge weights, like squats, deads, ect. Abs get a lot of work from those alone.
Nelson is right, ab work has little effect on actual weight loss. Ab work does put a moderate strain on the CNS though, so it can effect it to a degree. Diet and cardio are what make the abs show really well.
