yeah, what happens is when u add gear to the equation u start to up your test which allows you to lift more weight and thats all good but on the other hand if u are able to push more and more weight with the major muscles and neglect the supporting muscles that is when injury happens because they were neglected they finally end up tearing because they have not increased at the same rate of the major muscle...solution= make sure to do at least a little with these minor muscles so that they are given the chance to grow with the major ones, for instance before benching do some light (10-20lbs) lat and cuff raises, nothing crazy just something to losen u up and work those minor muscles at the same time, you can do anywhere from 2-4 sets and if u do at least that u can def decrease the risk of injury...hope all that helped
