Ditching the post-workout shake

Lately my schedule has caused my workouts to fall in right before lunch, now this means that instead of taking a protein shake after my workout, I just eat lunch instead. My question is...Is this ok? My lunches are usually pretty high in proteing/carbs anyway, but will eating instead of drinking my protein not take advantage of some biological window that getting protein in my body fast prevent muscle repair? Also, my current protein shake claims to have the amino acids necessary for proper muscle building (not verbatim), are there enough of these amino acids present in the protein sources I take in for lunch (usually chicken or beef)?
Thanks in advance to constructive replies.

all protein shakes have amino acids for building muscle. thats what protein is. and food has just as much if not more. i would take a fatass steak over a protein shake anyday.

agreed. people make way too big a deal about the postworkout shake.

i dont agree at all. you need that protein to hit your muscles asap to start recovery. nothing better than whey with dextrose. you also need something that will digest quick like a shake to stop catabolism after a workout.

It's very key to a body composition change for the better.

One of the more crucial areas to focus on during an endeavor as such, is 1-3 hours after intense weight training.

Should be a very big deal, yes, and for good reason.

Yea I supposed I could take a little bit of protein powder before I eat, but do i need to? Whats the consensus. 1-3hrs right? Is the protein I take in for lunch (today it was a big ol' baja steak burrito, so yea I, and i think most people would prefer steak over a chocate drink) not fast enough to be digested and used before that time runs out and i enter catabolism? Thanks again for responses.

The body will uptake the protein almost immediately after an intense lifting session. It craves that protein and allows it to begin repair that much quicker. You'll still grow without it, many people do. The thing is, if you're a beginner, or somewhere in the middle, don't worry about it. I doubt it will have any huge effect that you'll be two different people at the end of either path (taking or not taking a PW shake) - but if you're far along in the game already, you may want to make sure you get the most out of your bouts of training and try adding it in.

Dairy and egg have the best amino acid profiles. They should be your choice over meat post workout. Meats have a PCDAAS score of .8-.92 while eggs and dairy score a perfect 1.0 score.
