I'm actually heading out this afternoon to pick up a 2MP digital camera. I'm going to go with the Canon A40. I've got a friend with one, and the picture quality is awesome, under all kinds of different lighting situations. It's got about the best overall reviews that I've found as well, and is a decent price at $250. I wound up choosing this camera over the Sony DSC-P31, Nikon Coolpix 2500, and Panasonic DMC-F7... all 2MP as well.

Here's a few reviews if you're bored:

The Canon S200 also comes highly recommended. My cousin has this camera and from the pics I've seen that he's taken. The quality is quite good for only 2 megapixels. And it's also tiny, fits right in a shirt pocket

Kodak DX4330
3.1 MP for $299
But an extra $80 for the dock/charger

The pictures are excellent quality. I took a bunch at the auto show ... I haven't seen pics like the ones I took in a while.

I've got a Canon Powershot A40, and it's fantastic. Here is a link to a review, and here is a link to some sample photos. It's a fantastic camera.

kyle,

thanks for the info. your site was very informative.. on thing though, how small is it physcially? the one thing i like most about that little sony is how small it is, plus a 16mg card. But the Canon is growing on me, since everyone is talking about it.. thanks

It's about 4.25" long, 2.75" tall, and 1.75" thick where there is a bulge for a grip. It's to overly big. I carry it in my pockets often, though, depending on my pants, sometimes it seems too bulky for pocketing.

Hey hey,

Sounds like you know your stuff Kyle. I really like the Canon, but I really want something small I can stuff in my pocket. What do you think about the little Sony. Here's a link to it. Could you let me know what you think?? Thanks man

hey kyle,

do you know anything about the Canon digial ELPH. its 2MP and the guy at best buy said its exactly like the A40, but less digital zoom.. Thing is, the a40 is really too big. I want something i can stuff in my pocket, or else i probly wont take it out with me.. thanks

I'm not Kyle, but I'll chip in my two cents worth anyway. I looked into the Canon S200 (Elph) also, but decided against it. Several reviews I read said that it takes great day pics, but not-so-hot night or low-light pics. Also, it uses a proprietary battery pack, so you can't just grab AA's off the shelf in a pinch. But, if you're mostly going to take day pics and don't mind springing for an extra battery pack, you're probably good with it. BTW... I got my A40 this past weekend, and love it.

Transfers the pics at the touch of a button, charges the battery while you ... do whatever it is that you do.

It's a handy little device.
