DEADLIFT PR!!....no...

Last dead session, I hit 345x3. So today, I attemtped 365. On my first attempt, up the weight came...to the top...but no lockout, arrgggh:mad: I couldn't quite finish it. That's okay I thought, I'll nail this shit. I tried three more FUCKING times...nothing, I was absolutely pissed, to say the least. I didn't get it more than 2 inches off the frikkin ground
Needless to say, I'm pretty salty about it now...I'm gonna try again next week.

Slow down man, seriously. Next week try 350. Trust me on this. If you could add 20 lbs every session you would be the strongest man in the world after a year's time.

I know man, but I wanted that 365:mad:
I was thinking after I left the gym, that maybe I was asking too much of my body...I'll try something a bit lighter next time.

Nah...Try 365 again next week bro. You see the type of negative shit thats trying to keep you down. Fuck that shit!!!! Pull 365 next time!!!! You already fucking did that shit!!! Just seal the fucking deal!!! Im proud of you man, but get fucking psyched for that 365,cuz thats right under 405. You got to want that shit, dream about it!!!! You got it bro!!! Take some type of energy booster if you must!!!! Get fucking insane!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yea...I almost forgot. Maybe this will help. Has helped me majorly. Try keeping your eyes closed during most of the lift, since you cant get that blackout feeling when your seeing black. Works real well for me. Also , once you get the bar over your knees, you got that shit! Dont let it go til you do. After it goes up over the knees try leaning back and shrugging the bar up. This always seals the lift for me. Alot easier then falling forward with the weight trying to fight it. Use your leverage! One last thing, something that made a difference for me was this guy trying to spot me on deadlifts. Fucking weird I know, but it did teach me something. With someone right in front of me like that, it forced me to come straight up, without leaning my shoulders over the bar or hunching my back as much. And this is the day I hit a 35lb PR and broke the 500 mark. Made a huge difference. Hope all of t his helps!! And be sure to eliminate grip problems using either straps or chalk. Do not allow grip to interfere with your deadlifts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KILL THAT SHIT!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the love and advice bro!! As far as my grip, I wore a pair of wraps, and eliminated that issue. I know deep down that I won't be able to settle for less than 365 next time around...I want that shit so bad:mad:
A guy at the gym asked me if I was training for a competition??? I told him no, "just training hard". I don't know if he was complimenting me or what.
WB, thanks for the motivation once again brother! I am going to hit some heavy rack pulls in a few days, and try and destroy 365 next time!!

That's like getting head from a girl while your standing on a chair and then her kicking out one of the legs right before you go...

:(

Don't worry...u'll get it next time...

This is absolutely terrible for your lower back. If you continue to do this, don't be surprised if you have to get parts of your spine fused together.

I'm sick and tired of this. Negative shit? I'm just telling him that he should progress at a slower rate. YOU CAN'T ADD 20 LBS TO THE BAR EVERY TIME. Your macho attitude will only get him injured in the long run. 5 lbs a session is 260 lbs in a year. That's not enough? Your deadlift is 510 lbs. What was it 1 year ago? I'm willing to bet you had a lot of failed attempts in bad form during the year if you practice what you're preaching to this guy.

He had 365 to the point just before lockout. Its fucking rediculous to try less weight next time when he had that shit. Never suggested 20lbs per session, I see you pulled that out your ass though. Neat trick. If anything he should try 375 since he practically got that shit, and could deinately get more if he wasnt pre-exhausted. Im driven, something that those without spines and "hardgainers" cannot comprehend. A year ago I was at 405. And I did fail many times but it was these failures that lead to my increases in the long run. I feel no pain in my spine either, it feels stronger then ever. :alien:

WORD!! I will never go backwards! More weight or fail trying!!!

I think Debaser is right. You're not being a pussy by being conscious of the beating your CNS is taking. I like little jumps because I get more mileage out of them. Once your CNS is fried, that's it. Takes a couple weeks to recover, and that really sets your training back.

But in any event, you know your own body better than anyone else does. Whatever weight you put on, you should expect to make it. Best of luck next time bro.

I'd like to see his form at the top of that lift, for one. Also, what fucking good does it do him to fail on a single, when he could have succeeded on a TRIPLE? Hardgainers can't comprehend that you're driven? If anything, they have to be even MORE driven to succeed, because they weren't handed good genetics. Ever think that if you didn't fail so many times you might have added more than 100 lbs to your deadlift in a year?

Agreed. Doing low rep sets to failure constantly will lead to overtraining pretty quickly.

Thanks bro, and I do expect to make my next DL attempt, regardless of weight....just gotta play it smart, and stay motivated!

Maybe I'll take some pics next time, so my form can be critiqed by ya'll...It did occur to me just prior to my final attempt, that my form must of been off the last couple of times, if I got it up that first time....I dunno, anything to justify the failure to myself....

Singles are just more fun. My genetics fucking suck too. But Ive never once bitched about being a hardgainer. If anything, a so-called hardgainer has an advantage if he trains hard. Since all the gains will be muscle and not fat. Quality gains. I read a hardgainer article a while back that stated a 500lb deadlift was all a natural hardgainer could ever expect. Ive only been deadlifting steady for a year and easily broke that shit. Just sounds like alot of excuses to me. I was 105lbs and weak as shit, it took long, but Ive been able to slowly change that. Wasnt fucking easy, but it was and is possible. Maybe I could have added more to my dead, but I doubt failing attempts had anything to do with it.

I'd like you to show me that article. I read an article in Hardgainer magazine by a 6'3" guy with 6" wrists deadlifting 670 lbs. He outlined his program, I posted it here a few months back I believe.

If so then he misunderstood it's aim. The article was in fact the opposite of what he's describing it as. It's not meant to say that you'll never deadlift more than 500 as a hardgainer, it actually says that that should be the minimum level attainable for most any typical man, and if you think it's not possible then you're selling yourself short. This is the mark where you start to drift out of the novice category. It then goes on to say that while some guys may have trouble getting a lot stronger (the genetic scrap heap), you should still make the most of what YOU were endowed with, and not worry about the genetic elite and/or drug enhanced.

I believe from memory that the author specifies that the 3 - 4 - 5 level is for advanced hardgainer, not the minimum level

Bah don't make me search through my Beyond Brawn book. I'm going to sleep I'll look for it tomorrow.

im 6'3 and have 7" wrists, just pulled 500 after DL'n for 5-6 months. I couldnt pull over 365 when i first started. I dont pull heavy every week, maybe once a month if that. I normally do light speed work ( power cleans, first half of it is a dead ) rack lockouts and just lots of core work, i rotate exercises a lot but they still hit the same groups and ive made unbelievable gains in both size and strength.
