Really makes a difference on your credit report.

I totally blew off my mortgage payment last month. well, I didnt blow it off, I deducted it from my Money register..but obviously didnt actually pay the bill online. I got a letter in the mail saying I was late...but I threw it away because I assumed I paid it (I would never not pay a bill) and when I checked in my register I saw that I had deducted it.

Well, it hadnt been paid and when I FINALLY checked my online statment it had been 30 days. I made the payment over the phone @ 31 days and it went on my credit report and my score dropped 50 points. Hopefully only because its so recent. I dont know.

Ive been really spazzy and disorganized lately. My mind has been on other things..and I was getting lazy with updating my register and disorganized in general...

I cant believe one thing makes that big of a difference. 10 years no problem, one oversight and it drops that much. Lesson learned. Be more organized Cindy. Good thing rates went up because I wont be refinancing now.

You can usually get your mortgage company to remove it if you talk to the right person and follow up.

They really dinged your credit for 1 late payment?

They usually don't report slow pays unless you do it frequently or back to back.

Yeah, I always had amazing credit. Just found out I was a few days late on ONE credit card payment and it dropped significantly.

Such is life. Don't make mistakes, piggy.

a late pay on a mortgage sucks but like nev said u can prob get it taken care of

Really? Who should I ask for when I call?

Thanks - I didnt know that there was anything I could do

Just call customer service and don't get off until you talk to someone that can help you get it resolved. It's a simple mistake, and it's really in banks' best interest to keep their customers in good standing provided there hasn't been a history of delinquincies.

Thank you so much - I will do that. I've never been late so hopefully they will work with me.

Call them and offer to change the account to auto draft, and see if they will remove the late payment.. if they say no.. you are talking to the wrong person..

Call them but if you're late, you're late. I don't know how they're going to go back to the CR and say you're "not late". I'm surprised it shot down 50 pts, wow.

Credit is how corporate america/govt control the middle class. And credit scores is how they force people to pay on time or else... :)

I used to work for Ford credit and if you were late regardless of the reason the report went out period, being late is being late, if it was somehow the company's fault we'd fix it but if not there was nothing we could do, but it's worth calling and asking.... how/where do you check ur credit report? I'm a bit paranoid about putting my ssn online so don't know any reliable source, I've always wanted to know what I have since I've only been in the us as a child/teen.... I'm pretty sure I have no credit and no credit = bad credit, I'm gonna get screwed when I move back :(

Never thought about that, but you are correct.

I guess the trick is to *avoid the middle*.

Ever notice how banks or people at the top, companies don't have to pay their bills when things go bad.

GM doesn't have a 'credit report'. Only poor little worker bee americans do. hehe.
