Could Tattoos damage muscles forever?

Scott Steinner

New member
I read a article a few weeks ago that Tattoos could damage the muscles forever. Schould it be true?
I hope not, this is not the only one I want!
It would be really hard to choose between a big biceps and a beautifull Tattoo wouldn't it?

I wouldn't see how since the neelde putting the ink in is not going that deep. Surface at the best. But how knows.

Tats don't go that deep into the muscle, so I have a hard time believing that you could damage tissue with them...

They don't seem to have bothered me yet... :)

I heard that they interfere with definition (giving a smoother look where the tat is when ripped). Other than that, don't know...

i'd go for the biceps :D

...actually considering getting my first soon...i'd like to hear more on this topic...but i figure in 20 years they will have cream and it will rub right off your skin(at least i hope) :)

Now after someone said something. The art might not show the definition like a bare arm would. When I had hair on my arms you could not see the veins or the definition as good as when they are shaved. The art might mask some of the definition.

I don't see any damage for the muscle. I do agree with the ripped statement. For those of us with tats, we know that the skin does seem a little smoother where it contains ink. I would suppose that a large heavy tat in an area where you would see full-on striations during contest or dieting condition could be affected somewhat. Just get the tats and find a happy medium, it will make very little difference unless you are a pro and depend on this for a living. My double bicep shot exposes some large celtic knotwork right on the inner bicep, probably would not go ever real well with judges. ;)

Have you ever seen Tyson the Model. He has plenty of tatoos all over his upper body and he is ripped tp shreds. I know alot of people with alot of tatoos and they are ripped.

I have read about this study too.
they tested people before and after getting them and people with and without them and the tattoos seemed to result in loss of strength.
but even the people running the study said it wasn't at all conclusive b/c it wasn't a large enough population test.
besides, everyone has them these days - it fits in the "I want to be different, just like all the other different people" category

thats stupid bs. tattoo pricks stay between the layers of skin, far from the muscle. the only problem i have with tattoos is if you grow very rapidly over a short period of time. your tattoo can be stretched and look strange.

m1cron popping a zit where you have a
tatto will only do it damage if you do it while the
skin is still healing (within the first 2 weeks or so)
after that, you have to cut really deep into the skin to
do any damage

That article is wrong....I've read a similar article and my tat hasn't affected my muscles one bit....mine is on my shoulder/arm.....and I've gained about 1 inch on my arm since I'ce had it

I remember hearing about it in the news a couple of months ago that some study supposedly showed that the ink eats away at the muscle over time. Personally I don't believe it. Also highly doubt that they included any one in their study that work's out or trains on a consistent basis. I have two tattoos, one on each arm, and I continue to get stronger.

We just have to make a choice!

Can Tattoos Cause Muscles To Shrink?
octors have resently found a possible side effect of the body art--they may take the bulge out of your biceps.
In the July 18th issue of Annals of Internal Medicine, doctors from Israel report on three cases in which young men who had recently gotten tattoos began losing muscle in the surrounding area. All had tattoos on the upper body and suffered the muscle meltdown in their shoulders and arms. Two also had nerve damage.
There was no other explanation for the mysterious muscle wasting, and unfortunately, the damage is permanent, Dr. Israel Steiner of Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem told Reuters Health. Exactly how a tattoo would trigger muscle atrophy is unclear, he said, but the possibilities include injury from the needle, bad technique on the part of the tattoo artist, or the pigment in the tattoo ink. Some research, he noted, has suggested tattoo pigment contains potentially toxic compounds.
Steiner noted that as far as he knows, this is the first time tattoos have been linked to muscle wasting.
"Nevertheless," he said, "I think that it is a side effect of tattooing, and individuals considering (a tattoo) should be aware that it can happen."

I'll 2nd that anabolism. Started with 1 at 18yrs old. 6yrs later I have 3 and will be going again this summer. Very addictive, however no effect on muscle gained. thats obsurd!sp

Scott Steinner: Could you email me a bigger picture of that tat. That looks similar to the one i'm looking to get.

Peace.
Mule.

I don't know about you, but this subject is totally worthless. I have had two tattoo's for 20 years and I did
not work out then. I do now and have had no problem
with my arms in anyway.

I hope this will clarify this issue, it is only skin deep so I would not worry or believe this urban legand at all.

errr...i heard that there was a research done in Izrael, and there is a possibility that some chem component of the ink COULD cause muscle wasting. Once again, it is only a possibility, results are somewhat inconclusive. Wasting could be caused by infection. I got 2 tatoos and had no problems.

Yeah right...If the ink were mixed with nerve agent by some terrorist it might be possible. NOT!!!HAHAHA.... Signed, Laserdudes bro.

holy christ! those are some knockers!

oh, we should all be very suspicious of "studies" that cite three reported cases. Who knows what that particular tattoo parlor was doing?

You wanted a big one Bloodymule ???????
The big one is in you're mail! Be aware he is really big!
Let me now what you think about bro!!

I have a half sleeve of ink on my left arm, back is covered as well as my right leg. These articles are full of crap as far as I am concerned. Sure you see less definition, but it dose not cause muscle wasting as the articles state. M1cron1x....yes i get zits on the inked areas, no it doesn't fuck it up if you pop them. Sometimes you see a cool looking hole that is dark inside after though (when it is a hard one ) !! And, HappyScrappy, my tattoos are personal to me, they are custom designs that no one else has that tell symbolic stories of my life. So I would not classify myself into your catagory of "I want to be different, just like all the other different people" like you stated. My tats are for me and I really don't give a shit about what other people think or perceive when viewing them. The only damage I have on them m1cron are scars from a bike wreck, zits will not do it. ;)
