Core Work

What kind've core work, if any, do you martial artists and fighters do? I figure compound lifts, combined with some isometric core work (planks and bridges) I should be okay, but I'm not sure if any dynamic exercises are used by people, or if they make a difference. I can't see them making much of one.

And no, situps aren't a good choice, so don't bother mentioning those.
 
Direct core work:
Overhead Squats
Pullover situps
Abwheel (if its good enough for the US olympic weightlifting team, its good enough for me)

Indirect core work:
Squats
Clean
Snatch
Deadlift

One overhead squat is more effective than a thousand anythings on a balance ball.
 
well if I could do an overhead squat I would...
but this actually wasn't ment for corework so I guess this was a bad place to post it
I ment it as a way to help drill punch technique

If you can do a SQUAT AND you can hold your hands overhead like youre getting Robbed in a Western you can do an Overhead Squat . No one ever said that you had to start with any particular amount of weight ! Start with just the Bar , or start with even Lighter Dumbells ! But youll ALWAYS be Weak unless you start with SOMETHING ! even if you can only do Half Squats , start with that !
 
well , then Honestly it sounds like somethign you should SERIOUSLY stat working on !

Put the Bar up over your Head , and Squat as low as you can , but go REALLY Fast . Do Partials Till you cant go any Deeper , then just stand there and hold the Bar over your head .

Give yourself 12-15 weeks and see how much better it gets . seriously .
