funny story about that word and how I came to be familiar with its meaning: when my brother was in jr high school, he did something my father found to be unacceptable or annoying and promptly referred to my brother as "unctuous", to which my brother responded,"what does that mean?". Well, in my family, you never ask what a word means unless you really are in the mood to go look it up in the dictionary because that's just how my Dad rolls. So, he made my brother look it up, and then write the word and definition on a piece of paper which he then was required to keep in his pocket at all time for about a week or so.
