Computer people...jnuts, dial tone, etc.....

OK. I can't even download the spy programs because the computer is so freakin slow.

Is there any way I can download the spy program onto a disk from my computer and install it on their computer?

I'm getting frustrated with that computer right now.

I haven't answered because I have no ideas.

Yeah, you should be able to do that - if it's too big for a floopy, just burn it to a CD on the good computer and bring it over to the other one.

Another option is to try booting into SAFE mode and then download the stuff.

When the boot window comes up, it will list options on how to get into safe mode.

I'll try that and see what happens.

That's OK Dial Tone. Thanks.

OK jnuts. I burned a CD with Spybot on it and downloaded to that computer and ran it. It did find a lot of backweb, backweb lite, DSO Exploit, Wild Tangent and some others(can't remember the names..meant to write them down but fixed them)

Performance hasn't budged yet. It is XP and the kids have their own log on names and passwords. WOuld I have to run spybot on each name account?

Will it load ANY web pages?

Good question, that I don't know the answer too - can't hurt to try. Do these accounts have admin permisions on them? If they do, remove it. It will solve problems in the future.

Can you reach web pages if you boot into safe mode (with networking)?

Google.com...it will load that but it doesn't have much on the page to slow it down. It's probably loading from it's cache.

I'm ignorant to how to boot in safe mode so please explain in layman's terms...sorry. :verygood:

Nothing can be more frustrating than when your computer won't boot properly. Whether you've made a recent change, installed a bad driver, or whatever, sometimes the darn thing just won't come back up right after powering down. There is a hidden boot menu in Windows XP that has an option that can help. When the Operating System first starts (after the power on self test), press the F8 key on your keyboard. This will display a menu on a black background, which has an option called "Safe Mode." Actually there are a couple different Safe Mode options, depending on whether you want to use the network, or just a command prompt. Choosing Safe Mode will allow you to at least boot up, so that you can uninstall a bad driver, or change problematic system settings, etc

OK....I'm going to try this plus a few other things you have mentioned. Sometimes I hate these damn machines. I told my kids that if they break the computer, I wasn't fixing it!!!!!They would just have to deal with it. Idle threats is what I call them but you see who is trying to fix it.

I guess it has something to do with $$$$ is why I want to fix it. No since in spending that kind of money on a new computer and LCD for it to sit idle.

I'll see what happens. :)

Thanks and I will bump this if I have progress on it.
