I have an HP a6700F computer. I want to get two 2TB hard drives for it. I believe I have two open SATA ports. The support sites says this:

* Four SATA connectors:
o SATA1 = Black
o SATA2 = White
o SATA3 = Blue
o SATA4 = Yellow

* Supports 1 SATA-150 or SATA-300 disk drive on each SATA connector

The pic, in the lower right hand corner, has the SATS ports. I have the blue and yellow one currently unopened and unused.

Will I be able to use two 2TB hard drives? Should I get an additional fan for heat protection?

K for answers.

Should be no problem connecting those drives... An extra fan if you have space is indeed advisable.

That's alot of porn though.. j/k :)

lol I have a tons of files and have multiple backups. I was looking at NAS drives but they are much more expensive for the space. I saw 2TB drives on E-bay for $170 each and that is dirt cheap. I can easily get away with 1TB but figure the larger ones will save me an upgrade down the road. I was also considering a normal server but those are pricey too.

I used to be a computer pro but it has been ages since I have built a computer. I was looking at EIDE drives but then figured out SATA was the new format lol

A NAS can be goo if there are others in the house using it to. especially if you go w/ the raid. But you're right. They're pricey...

I would just go w/ the drives..

Good Luck

liquid cooled
quad core
plenty of space for 2 of those size HD

Nvidia graphics?

GeForce 6150 SE

When I got this one I just grabbed it. I normally shop around but my computer crashed, I needed a desk top fast, and I went to Office Max and they had this on sale and I had a $50 coupon so I said what the hell. I don't play games and it is pretty fast for my needs. It is my first HP too and so far so good.

The bad thing is I am using Vista and I cannot adjust the video resolution, the screen goes blank. Tech support was no support.

use window 7 Ulitmate and dual boot
It's free till march 2010
Or buy it for $139 in Oct when it's released

puddles in 3..2..1 saying there is nothing wrong with Vista

It took me tons of time to get the statistical software I use to work on Vista. I even switched out my Toshiba laptop OS with XP, and that was a nightmare because the drivers were designed for Vista. Thank god there are techies out there who rigged the drivers. By luck I found a message board where I got the drivers I needed for XP. And downgrading negated my warranty!

Needless to say I am not going to use Windows 7 until my software states it is compatible with Windows 7!

keep vista
partition your hard drive
try it out

Why wouldn't it work? You've got four jacks, you're using one, you want to add two devices...

I've learned no matter how stupid the question is, ask it lol

It is the first time I've even looked at a motherboard with an SATA jack. The last computer I built was in 2002. Since then I just buy the premade stuff but I am considering buying a barebone for my next one.

There are no stupid questions my friend. Only stupid answers. :)

I use vista and XP both at work as I have to provide support for both. I dont mind vista, however there is a reason MS cam out w/ another OS so fast. I think vista will go down as the "ME" of the late 2000's.

Blessings,

I honestly feel horrible for people who buy or have bought comps in the past 6 months with Vista only to have 7 come out in Oct

pwned
