Comments on my girlfriend's diet.

She is 5'7" and now about 135lbs. She was 125lbs around this time last year and is frustrated at the 10lb weight gain. She is 24. Over the last couple of weeks she's been trying to tighten up her diet even more (she already eats VERY healthy) in order to shed a couple lbs. Before she ate healthy, but she would eat as much of the healthy food as she wanted. Now she has been limiting her portions more, but after 3 weeks doesn't seem to see a noticable different. Here is an example of a typical day. Comments would be appreciated.

1/2 Cup coffee

Workout: 30 HARD minutes on the cross trainer
Abs and leg lifts

B-1.5 servings oatmeal with Almond butter (just tried thi today for the first time: YUM)
1 Big cup of coffee

**sit on butt all day at work**
L-Sandwich on WW bread, fruit salad or side salad

S-fruit or yogurt or some nuts


D-Big dinner with fam, lots of veggies and meat but also some bread and rice

S Frozen ?

Does she lift weights?
Leg lifts?


Oh if I wasn't clear - her diet sucks, she is starving, her metabolism is at a stand still and no she will not see any results by eating less and less.
 
If a guy that size asked you if that sounded like a good diet what would you say?

Where the heck is the protein? Or the calories. Pop that into fitday and see what you come up with.

I'm was very similar in stats about 10 weeks ago and just dropped the 11 pounds and I did it by eating ~ 50% protein/30% fats/20% carbs. My calories are probably in the 15-1600 range.
 
Can I get some suggestions I can take back to her?

She's beeing using the shape.com message boards and gets a wide range of reaction.

Lestat -- have her look at the sticky at the top of this bosrd - "are you new to the Ef Ladies board - START HERE"

The best thing she can do to start is put that above diet in a food counts program like www.fitday.com and take a real close look at her portions & what she's eating. It will tell her how much of protein / fat /carbs & total cals she's eating. That is really useful in illustrating if you are not eating enough / too much / how much.

And if she's doing abs & leg lifts everyday? Every day?? Clarify please. No point doing abs everyday -- do you train all your muscle groups every day?? (nope.) Abs every day is a great way to get a thick waist line. Abs are all about the diet.
 
That's not healthy.. she needs some protein.. look at the stickies andt ell her to lift some weights:)
