Budget is no issue.

Factors: customization, precision, power...in no particular order

Discuss.

Get a 1911. A 9mm glock 23 (I think) with the full auto conversion and a snail drum would be fun to play with....but thats all.

I have one my father carried as a corpsman during WWII; I also have an Arasaka carbine he brought back as a war trophy. It has the Chrysanthemum Flower Seal intact so it probably wasn't a surrender trophy but taken during or shortly after combat.

Mine has the dust cover.

PS When shooting you move as little as possible from your firing position....bolt actions are problematic in that respect. :)

There's nothing wrong with the Glock. I'm a XD and SIG person my self, but Glock has a good rep for a resone.

A lot of guys do not like 9mm because it is considered a small round so they don't feel "tough or manly". But fact is, a kill shot to center mass of the chest or head, is a kill shot, period. I own a 9mm and I love it. I do prefure my 45 or my 10mm. The rounds do a lot more damage.

glock would be easiest to use. no safety, point and shoot. 1911 would take a little more practice to be good with.

guns are like cars. do you want something you can tinker with and customize and tune up (1911)? or do you want something reliable out of the box that goes bang everytime you pull the trigger no matter what (glock)?
CCW?
Home defense?
Keep in your car?

I have both, and honestly I can't say one is better than the other. For accuracy in the middle of the night (wake up to an armed intruder, etc), I'd go with the 9mm. The .45 auto is definitely more stopping power, but unless you keep it chambered (and I don't), it's clumsier to handle than the Glock or other high-end 9mm autos. (IMHO). Daytime protection (behind store counter, etc), I'd go for the 1911. For carrying purposes, the Glock hands down. the 1911 is too big & heavy.

there really isnt too much you can do to the desert eagle 1911 or the colt 45 as far as customization... you can strip the parts and do grips, nickel plating, engraving ect... cosmetics... not too many internal parts, where the glock (i wouldnt do a 9mm) you can make parts, mold parts, there are a million and one accessories, theres the reliability there too... if i had my choice, i would take the glock but in a .45... as far as bad ass blow ya nuts off power, the desert eagle cant loose. those guns were made for one purpose only.. to kill people. they really serve no other purpose. the colt... its an all american classic.. ya kinda have to love em.
if its for self protection get a glock 30... its a .45, accurate, not too heavy, not bulky and never gotta worry about that gun jamming... thats my carry. i just wanna know the mother fucker is gonna work, ya know... and a 45 is a show stopper. you get hit with one round your chances of getting up are slim, and if you are alive... play dead

Go with a Glock 23, .40S&W. Fantastic size for carry, will stop a rhino and effortless to use. I alsow have a Glock 17 9mm and a .45 1911, and the only weapon I carry is the 23. Really love it!!

As long as it goes bang who cares. If its a daily carry gun you probably dont want a big, heavy, hard to conceal pain in the ass. Something light, compact, easy to carry/conceal, and reliable. My G19, xd45, & kimber carry well in the winter. My sw642 .38 is perfect for summer time. I care more about comfort than big rounds. The 9mm is perfect imo. Ive never hear anyone whos benn shot by a 9mm saying "man that didnt hurt at all." Gettin shot by a gun, any gun, would fucking suck. I think the 9mm is ample for a carry gun.

Have to be more accurate with a 9mm though. There are plenty of people who get hit by a 9 and keep running. If I hit you I wanna see u squirming not running.

I don't think it's called CCW in Canada, but yeh thats the purpose

You dont want a big frame 1911 for this bro. Or a Deagle. I promise. 9mm is a cap gun. Plus if you dont have the right ammo it will shoot through the target and kill more people behind the target.

Get a .40 cal. The Glock 23 (gen 3) is a perfect carry gun. Or the glock G30 in .45 acp.

Glock 30 | G30 | .40 Caliber Pistol | GLOCK USA

Glock, Smith and Wesson M&P, Springfield, You cant really go wrong with any of those. Kahr Arms makes a few very nice CCW in .45 acp. (the PM45).

.40 cal is more than enough. .45 is just right to make sure you only have to shoot once no matter where you hit them.

You know what rob? I was just doing side by side comparing of my G19 and G23 and the specs are identical, except for 13+1 in the G23 compared to 15+1 in my G19 but so what.
I think youve convinced me to upgrade to a G23 gen 4 to get some more power.

If you need to pull out a gun, than it better ready to fire quick. So I think all three fail at that option. I would go with a 357 or a 38 special revolver. Pull it out, point, and fire.

glocks do the same thing?

That's another subject completely. Using a weapon correctly and accurately is WAY more important than the size.

Absolutely correct. But even if you fuck up and hit the perp in the shoulder there is a BIG difference if its 9mm vs. .45acp. If you hit the fuck with .45 he's going to be missing some of his shoulder.

You have to get the bullet in the chamber from the clip by sliding the shaft. That's not the same.

Yeah the developed the 45 caliber for a reason. Because those fuckers wouldn't stop coming at them after they were shot with a smaller round.

lol...any of you let me shoot you with my G19 and we will see if you keep coming, fall down dead, or turn around and run like a bitch.

Getting shot with anything will hurt and probably stop you but if you really want it fucking dead them its gotta have some punch

I dont think the majority of CCW people practice even remotely like they should. I know some people would whip out a G19 in a grocery store parking lot if need be and take one single head shot on a perp with all the confidence in the world. Having the right ammo it wouldnt kill people behind them either. I know I'm not that guy. I'm going for a torso shot with my .45 .
If your talking some huge guy who's all meth'd up (like Mrs Ocal) one or two 9mm shots in the shoulder or body isnt going to stop them most of the time. But a .45 in the gut or chest is going to ruin their plans quick.
9mm is great if your a marksman with it and can get a kill shot.
Most of the time I think having to pull your gun is going to get you out of whatever your in anyways.

God I wish you'd learn the difference between your and you're

hahahahhahhahahahahhhahahahaaaaaaaaaahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahhahhahaahahhhhahahaha

eeh im accurate with my 45 for a head shot with no sweat at 50.. anything past that im going torso..
i cant get used to a 9mm... ive always had and shot bigger cal guns. i cant loose with my mossberg 500

I would love to go to a shooting range with you guys...
Road trip

no way your accurate to 50 yards with a handgun in a stressful situation

Have any of you ever been in a situation to have to use your handgun?

Accuracy goes out the window, it's pure fight or flight mode and adrenaline takes over. A headshot didn't even cross my mind, I just wanted a bullet somewhere in the guy's body.

Didn't have a huge caliber, and guess what the guy did when I shot him.....he fucking went down like a sack of shit and screamed bloody murder until the cops and ems arrived

Anyone who says 9mm doesn't stop people has never shot someone

Why are you shooting at someone 50 yards away with a pistol?
Fuck at that point you should just get in your car and drive them over.
Right?

mind sharing what happened?

He is telling it from the third person. He was actually the guy that got shot. LOL

I have once before on here. Basically, my car and brother in law's car got towed to two separate locations in bad neighborhoods in Houston. Like really bad. We were eating dinner at the Hardrock and they towed us mistakenly (it was a no pay weekend)

So while BIL is getting his truck from this shithole tow yard, I'm sitting in an Excursion in the alley with 6 women (aunts and mother and grandmother and gf and two babies) and two thug ass faggots come walking by and don't see me.in the car.

Asshole #1 walks a little ways away to play lookout while asshole #2 rounds the suv and breaks the window where my grandmother is sitting. sees me in the driver seat and comes around the car, passes in front of the headlights and I see a gun, so I throw the door open, draw, and put two rounds in him and then take his gun while asshole #1 fucking sprints off

sweet! My story from last night has nothing on that shit. Told it sweet and short too.

I carry a 9mm that holds 7+1 premium hollow point ammo. I'm much more likely to strap that on every day than a heavy ass pistol that's tough to conceal. its no good if its sitting at home when you need it. if that can't get me out of harms way pretty quickly, it was probably just my time.

exactly. That ammo should open up nicely and stop even the biggest douchebag from doing much of anything for a few months

bullshit I got handcuffed and didn't get back to the hotel until daylight

Shooting was around 12:45a.m.

Yeah but that was just a few hours and now you have a great story to tell.

good for you bro. sucks that you had to go through that but good job protecting your family. that's all that really matters

It's only a great story because I was CCW. If I hadn't been, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Fun fact, the gun he was using was aquired illegally. Inagine that.

That's the only reason I carry. The ones who do it to look cool usually are the ones who fuck it up for everyone else...

The only time I draw, i'm going to fire. Otherwise, noone knows I have it.

Kind of the point of 'concealed' isn't it?

Unfortunately... once I used it. Second time I only drew down on a guy.

When I did I was firing shots from my hip and didn't stop squeezing until I was fully drawn down on him.
It sucked. Wasn't cool at all actually.

Nope nothing cool about shooting people. I've done it for a living and still didn't like it.

But the fact is, as long as you're doing the right thing and minding your own fucking business, the likelyhood of having to shoot someone is very very low

Not in Arizona bro. Out there you shoot first ask questions later.

That's what thugs do.

Only time I ever use a firearm outside of sport is when I know me or my family is in danger.

Stay out of shithole hoods and you could go an entire lifetime without having to draw.

Scottsdale is far from the hood lol. He pulled his and didn't squeeze before I could. That's all. I've been trained and have been shooting since I'm 10. Like I said, it sucked. Wasn't at all like the movies. Just a shit load of questions, reiterating and papers to sign.

Well not all of us live in the wild west, jesse fuckin james.

Someone had a great point about accuracy in a gun fight with a pistol. Shooting at the range is NOTHING like doing it in a bad situation.

If you don't have one in the chamber, your gun is just for show.

Or watched too many movies where the dudes always gotta rack the slide everytime they draw, for horseshit effect

lol but it looks soooooo cool....

I have to admit though, there is something blood chilling about the sound of a pump action 12 guage being chambered in the dark that wood make your pecker shrink if you're doing a B&E

B&E is that like dry anal?

I have to admit i always wondered why movies with glocks always have the hammer cocking sound effect when they got no fucking hammer

Hahahahahaha

Can i hollywood noobstick?

Cuz it sounds scary orbert lol

Just like a semi auto shotty that keeps making the rack-back sound, before firing 64 shots off without reloading

Springfield Armory 1911 "Operator"

Mine is the WWII version from my grandfather while he was on McArthers General Staff. Very cool but heavy to haul around.

Yeah it's heavier than most handguns, but the Operator model is extremely accurate right out of the box, and reliable. Though I probably wouldn't want to carry it, it's the perfect home defense handgun.

Yeah its a great piece and reliable as hell. You can beat the shit out of that thing and its just keeps firing.
