Photography is great and Michael Mann's night shoots of L.A. are absolutely stunning

Cruise is fantastic in this unusual role, one of his best performance

But....
The story is unbelievable and unrealistic
there are too many flaws in the plot that you can't really get into the movie

and why do the end need to suck that much, as in 99% of Hollywoodian movies ?

Nevertheless it's a good powerful thriller

Collateral is my favorite movie of 2004,with Bourne Supremacy a close second.Cruise kicks serious ass in that role.

I'm not sure Cruise is the best actor ever but he gives 100% of himself in each of his movies

I'm not sure Cruise is the best actor ever

Nope,there are certainly better character actors,although he did a pretty darn good dramatic performance in Magnolia.

but he gives 100% of himself in each of his movies

Which is probably the reason he is one of my favorite actors.The energy and intensity he brings to his roles makes him a lot of fun to watch.Not the most gifted actor to ever live,but a wonderful entertainer with a lot of 'it' factor.
