Chrysler Crossfire, Lexus SC430, or something else

Hi. I am retiring my Saturn and getting a new car. For those of you who have been here a while, you know the retirement of the "Silver Chariot" is a sad thing. But it is necessary at approx 160K miles.

I don't see a lot of cars i really like out there. I only like the Crossfire and the SC430

I looked at Aston Martins briefly, I may get one, but I am looking for a daily use vehicle. Amazingly, this city (Jacksonville) has a great British car mechanic. So I am down to these two. Which would you rather have? I have a Lexus GS 300, love it very much.

Also, any suggestions are welcomed, but I am not interested in

MB
BMW
Audi
Porsche
Corvette
Dodge Viper
350Z
Ferrari/Lamborghini etc (no good mechanics for those here, like the Aston Martin, too much stress to drive)
any SUV

Thanks.

You know, I like you and all that, and you're a cool guy, but you sure do talk a lot of $#1+ for a guy who drives a Saturn.

The Crossfire doesn't have enough engine. Wait a year for the Turbo charged version.

You obviously have not seen the Solara.

Yes technically the Solara is classified as a "Camry Solara" but it clearly has styling cues from the Lexus brand as it was intended. The "Camry Solara" has a slightly more powerful engine and NOTICEABLY different exterior/interior then the Camry. The exterior of the Solara has almost the exact same lines and flow as the SC430. There is no doubting that the Camry Solara looks extremely similar to the Lexus SC430. That is why most reports on the Solara say,

"The new Solara's styling on the outside seems to have a Camry-meets-Lexus-SC 430 philosophy."

"The new Solara has a sweeping console, large, bright gauges, almost-Lexus-look controls and thoughtful touches, such as new seatbelt extensions that make it easier for front-seat riders to reach their shoulder belts."

I've seen plenty of them.

Regardless of what the stylists did, underneath all that it runs a Camry engine and chassis. It is nothing more than a 2-door Camry. Period.

Also have a Lexus and a Morgan. What does that have to do with anything?

The 05 crossfire does (SRT?)

Just busting your balls there.

Yes, the SRT. I was thinking 04, silly me.

What is a Morgan?

A good site for looking at and comparing all these cars at once is the www.carsdirect.com site.

Good link, thanks

Morgans are like MGs, old British roadsters, but they are making a comeback these days; a 2005 is out for about $120K.

Personally I love the Acura TL. Sport sedan with 270hp. Good looks, reliability and performance. These are very very nice imo.

This is a nice car. Have you looked at this one? It would be kind of redundant if you have a GS.

Are you looking specifically for a coupe?

Your rationale doesn't make any sense.

The Chrysler Crossfire is a look-alike cheapened version of the MB SLK series. Crossfire is to SLK as Solara is to SC430.

Not to mention V6 as opposed to a V8.....no comparison IMO....other than the frame and body.

You're right there is no comparison between the Solara and SC430 as the former is a V6 and the latter is a V8.

Just as there is no comparison between the Crossfire SRT and SLK55 AMG since the Crossfire is a V6 and the SLK55 is a V8. Not to mention that the SLK is a hardtop convertible yet it can still outperform the Crossfire. If Matt is all about performance then he should not even consider the Crossfire as there is an even better "Crossfire" version in the form of the SLK55 AMG. Your rationale doesn't make sense as well.

I ruled out MB from the get go.

They're still out. I appreciate the input on the Solara, it's just not for me.

Rationale? maybe I am being irrational. But MB is out.
