did he say what was wrong with him? wtf.

spinal infection from 3 crushed verts he got squatting when he was 19.

met him a few times in the roxy in nyc, really cool guy and partied HARD. a few months later he was training at diamond gym in irvington, nj and he saw me and remembered who i was. really cool guy. wish him the best.

Strange, woudlnt think that his crushed vertebrae would have anything to do with an infection in his spin. Article mentioned how steroids and insulin use can increase chances of such infection, if thats right, most of us are at risk just like him.

CC: They said the diagnosis is that my spine was infected. All these stories about my kidneys failing and all that bull sh!t is false. The only thing wrong with me is that I have three crushed vertebrae, from when I was younger, which got infected. The three are crushed down on each other and the fourth vertebrae got infected.

It was probably from beating my body the docs said. And that injury was always there. Somehow it turned into a spinal infection that can be deadly and render you completely paralyzed or you can die... if it goes untreated.

I live reasonably close to Dorian Yates (Don't know him personally) and would love to have see "The Real Deal" about town!

The article shows a chart that says spine infections are caused by iv drug use, steroids, slin use, etc. Kind of scares you for a minute. I hope this isn't the end of CC career.

wow that sux
my prayers go out to him
i think the amazing part is he has had these crushed virtabre sice he was 19 and im sure he never stoped squatting

Sucks for the guy. The infection probably came on because of the steroid use, which I believe does limit the immune system.

I would hate to see his medical bills, as most bodybuilders don't have health insurance. If I was a bodybuilding star like him, I would make my sponsors put me on their health plan.

What kills me is how heres a guy learning to walk and he takes the time to mention how his shoulders were hitting the door when he was leaving the house cus he was so big and how hard a time the emts were having getting him into the ambulance....I mean he cant walk, but hes happy he still weighs 250lbs and looks the same....Give me a fucking break. "Yeah, i cant walk but i still weigh 250lbs."

LOL! I didn't even notice that. I had to read it again. That is a little nutty. I would just be happy to be walking again, screw the bodyweight.

I think they will find the appropriate antibiotic for chris and he will do fine. He may want to consider retirement.

You know we are all egomaniacs deep down. He had to throw that out so that he could make himself feel and look good to others. I think he said he was like 295 or something when it first happened and they were trying to get him out of the house.

You can speculate about why it happened and say it was drugs, he has probably been on large amounts of drugs for around 20 years. Why would it happen now and not 15 years ago? It sucks to hear of anyone losing their livelihood.

This is why i don't do certain movements like i used to. The threat of injury especially with heavy weight is real... IE: no more behind the necks - heavy ass squats - real heavy leg presses... Shit i have a bad back had a broken ankle and always tighten up my neck... It's just not worth it. In his case tho it's like he knew would get inujred working out with Dorian... I feel the same way with some of my workout buddies too!

That's the difference, your body isn't your livelihood, his is. He doesn't have the choice, he can't cut corners. That the tough thing about being a top tier professional athlete in a sport like bodybuilding, the bar is always getting set higher and it's much more physically demanding (in a different way) than most every sport.

I agree! Really unfortunate for the guy....

I TOTALLY agree with what you're saying!! I've met many pros and most of them are abit "off"...you would think walking would be the main concern..not that he's missing workouts or something!!...I've seen Chris in action and he parties HARD..Steroids are the least of his worries

I know. I mean having to deal with not walking and then the thoughts of being the size of a mere mortal would really do a number on you.

Chris Cormier quote "I watched as they kept checking my vitals, and I actually saw them flat line a few times then quickly start back up. They said if I had any more pain medication I would die. I felt like I was dying already."

my thoughts--trust me chris , you did not "flat line", probably your ekg leads became disconnected in the ER, CCU, or ICU or the nurse was changing them.....i am happy to hear he is doing well now

One of the few mass guy who maintains some semblance of aesthetics.
He was also well respected by his peers for being one of the strongest guys in the gym.

This whole story sounds a little sketchy...i mean, this is first time i ever heard of such a condition. If this was from heavy drug use and heavy lifting, i would think a powerlifter or strong man would have experienced something like this.

This is rare, which is why you haven't heard of this before. Its not something like having a cold or the flu. If you read the story, this condition was brought on from when he suffered a back injury when he was younger. It just now got to the critical stage.

A powerlifter/strongman would not have experienced this before if they did not hurt their back and suffer with what Chris had.

Kind of elaborate to just make this stuff up.
