Chicken tenders?

New member
Does anyone know anything about the makeup of chicken tenders?

From what I understand, they're the piece of meat that runs underneath the breast. 99% fat-free, and they have a little bit of tendon in them.

But, they seem much less dense than chicken breast. More water-weight, I think.

The price is right on them, but is it worth it, protein-wise?

Thanks guys.

anything breaded is bad for you for the most part. I would go with what pineapple said and just get boneless skinless, family packs or bags are the cheapest way to get them.

They're not breaded at all, they're just chicken bits. They come in strips rather than breasts. Bake them just like breasts, taste the same, just more ... tender.

I guess someone called them chicken tenders, and that's the name that stuck in my head. I guess it's wrong, and I can't find a site explaining chicken parts. They're cheaper than regular chicken breasts, which is why I was asking.

I'll keep looking.

Those things are a damn rip-off. Stick with the skinless, boneless chicken breasts for your wallet's sake. ;)

They are not a rip off and are a very good protein source. You can buy big bags of them at Cosco for about 12 bucks a bag and they are worth it. Chicken is chicken and the tenders are no exception.

I still think that the 6lb frozen boneless, skinless chicken breast bags at Sam's for $11 are the best buy. They don't have that rib meat which tends to hold a little more fat and a lot of tendon crap.

I'd say that if they are really 100% real chicken, then go for it! Make sure to read the fine print of the ingredients, if it says anything other than "Contains: Chicken, Water, Salt" then don't buy them, just stick with breasts.

i buy chicken breasts and debone them and take off the skin (saves money) and then grill them, works for me, cheap at win-diie or wal mart, i ussually buy enough for the week, cook them and throw em in the fridge

Thats just a different cut of breast normally, not tenders. They have all different sorts of cutlets including strips. Just go to the food store and pick up one package of all those that look good and see which you like the most. Thats better than soley basing everything on our opinions(but the concensus is that boneless skinless is the cheapest/best way to go).

... wait, its not the pre-cooked, frozen chicken breasts you buy by the box is it? hope not cause they are ful of preservatives like sodium

Nope, fresh gooey chicken, comes in the styrofoam plates with plastic wrap on top.

I'm not 100% sure what they cost, but it was less than chicken breasts.

By the way -- why have so many people commented on this?

The funny part is, nobody answered my question:

How do they compare to chicken breasts protein-wise?

I think everybody got confused somewhere along the way, but thanks. :D

Protein wise, they should be about the same, but I would think that cost wise you would get more meat for your money with the whole skinless breast. At least that has always been my experience.
