Changing Deadlift Stance

Seattleite

Banned
I had been using the Sumo Deadlift stance for the past year and half or so, but this week I decided to give the conventional form a shot (partly because my form has started to go to shit). Much to my surprise, I seemed to be stronger using this style. I wasn't expecting that because the supposed advantage of the Sumo style is that it has a shorter range of motion, therefore allowing you to move more weight over a shorter distance.

So what can I conclude if my deadlift is stronger from a conventional stance? Is it likely that my hamstrings are stromger than my hips? I'm just not sure what to make of it...

maybe your back is stronger than your hips.

I haven't pulled sumo in a long time. When I did it was usually in squat briefs. I can say that conventional stance for me is all back. I know my hams, glutes, and quads fire during the movement, but I can not think of the last time these muscles have been sore after pulling. I know that soreness is not an indicator of muscle recruitment, but I thought I would share anyway.

From what i know sumo is more hip and hamstring intensive. DaveTSI should know better then me, powerlifting is his specialty.
