Carrying shopping = exercise?

Okay, so the other day I was gonna take the car to the shops (I normally walk) as I needed to buy dog food, and I didn't wanna walk with it... until I asked myself "why not?". So I did - I bought groceries that weighed about the same as the bag of dog food (8kg - I know, not much use to most of you ;)), and carried the groceries in one arm, dog chow in the other, and walked using as strict a form as I could (straight back, shoulders firmed, for about 2-3km). I'm now suspecting this is either a really good idea, or a really bad one - I was STILL feeling it in my traps yesterday. So I turn to the gurus - what kind of idea am I messing with here? Am I more likely to do harm or good?
Does carrying weight over distance yield any practical gain?

Could be good GPP I guess, as long as it doesn't make you sore and interfere with your workouts.

There is always time to sneak in a few sets of lateral raises in the supermarket.

All you have to do is grap 4 gallons of milk (2 in each hand) and stand in front of the glass and proceed to perform 3 sets of 10 using only 30 seconds between sets.

Next, you can head over to the produce section and grab a couple of bags of potatoes. . .you can then use farmers, by walking from wall to wall.

Can presses are nice. . go to the isle that has the 8lb cans of yams, tapioca, or etc. . then proceed to perform a couple of sets to failure. . .not many people walk down this isle, so you can sneak in a couple of sets of can presses on the floor.

My favorite exercise. . . . load up a shopping cart with as many groceries as you can, then push it as fast and as hard as you can from each end of the store.

For grip, you can go to the produce and dairy section. . you can choose either an apple for an egg. . squeeze them as hard as you can until they give. . . when you are successful, repeat the process.

Supermarket workouts kick ass!

I must try this.... Can I slaughter people between sets? Barehanded slaughtering I hear is good work for the grip and agility as well as all around explosivenss. If you can tear a 400lb powerlifters skin off with your barehands, is there really any need to deadlifft or bench anymore?

hell yea it does IMO. it helps your endurance a whole lot for strongman stuff as well as powerlifting too! tb
