can you build stamina from weight training

I remember in high school taking a PE class and a teacher was a football coach and he wanted all of us to weight train because he said it build up endurance and stamina. My question is is this really true or is it just broscience. Seems to me that cardio will build up endurance and stamina not weight training
 
If you do high intensity weight training for sure you can build stamina
like high reps high sets = no need for cardio
 
If you are talking stamina/endurance like running, no, weight training is not going to do much. If you are talking from the football point of view, weight lifting is key
