Can I get my squat back in time?

My birthday is in 6 weeks and I just got the notion to squat 450 lbs and bike 45 miles on my birthday. I haven't done a single leg workout in about 18 months and it'll take me a month just to get my "squat legs" back.

Can Stella get his groove back in time?

catch - I probably haven't had over 365 on a bar in ten years...just never had a need.

Edit - in case you haven't figured it out I will be 45 years old.

Damn....lotta racists up in here.

I'd do something like 225lbs 45 times. If Tom Platz can do it then you can too (and he was a short white dude).

Tommy was a god!!!!!!!

Unless your squatting close to 400 right now. YOU'll fuck yourself up. Be careful.I'm 49. It took me 7 months to get back to 400lbs and over a year to get to 450

If I were in normal training mode I'd be doing 335x5 drug-free so it's not that big of a jump. It's just the getting back into the swing of things to make a 50lb jump from there in 6 weeks that's tricky.

"hey, it's me! I'm a 45 yr old man trying to relive my high school glory days and squat 400 some lbs!! I don't care that it is totally impractical and pointless and may leave me crippled in pain; i just want the glory and fame!!! No Fear! No pain no gain! Drink Mtn Dew! Arggggggg!!!!!!"

Anadrol or Beastdrol for four weeks and a good low rep heavy weight program and you are there.

It's on like Donkey Kong now, Vinnie Goombatz. I'm not actually going to do a max single. That's not worth the risk. I figure if I can hit 375x5 that works out to a 450 single. I'd like to hit 405 for 3'ish.

I did a quick shakedown workout just so I won't be so sore when I start really hitting it.

135x5x3 sets
185x5x2 sets
225x5
deadlifts 135x6x3 sets

coulda done those on on leg.

elliptical macheen for 20 minutes.

You'll be able to do it. I think it is a realistic goal. Good luck!

Rep'ed 335 for 6 easy sets of 2 today, then front squats and leg press.

Woot! Judging by that bar speed I'd say 450 is pretty much a done deal.

DT do you think maybe you were a little high on those?
regardless git er dunn

I was thinking the same thing. Have you tried using a stool (a reinforced one, typically used for step-ups) and sitting down? It's a static squat, instead of a dynamic one.

I saw it 15+ years ago on an old Lou Simmons training video. These monsters at West Side Barbells were squatting, but they'd sit on a rear car seat that had been placed behind them on the floor.

P.S. And for us old codgers (42 here), static squats are vastly more easy on the knees. I don't know why, but they are. I think it has something to do with the loading pattern of the joint.

No Racist.

They look high because my butt's so big. They were all hamstring to ankle. I filmed all four sets and even paused at the bottom on a few.

Plus you're doing highbar oly style which if you have big hammies makes it impossible to go any deeper.

That was awesome. You've always looked big, but damn, you're bigger than I thought.

And I had no idea your name was Stella.

how does one spot a squat exactly? the only time i've seen it done was when this guy was behind the squatter, hands on his wait.

i do all my heavy squats on the smith cause i'm too pussy to do it otherwise. i,m thinking a spotter would def make me more confident and reassure me.

not a thread hijack DT! just curious.

I've been spotted at my armpits, and it wasn't so much helping me get the weight up as it was helping me control it if I failed. FTR, I never failed, but I did have my legs turn into sewing needles. (ego)

Yep you have to be right behind the other person. I find it's best to have my feet slightly wider than the squatter. I typically keep my hands off but in a ready position floating about mid-rib level. If something goes wrong then I grab around to the chest so I can stabilize and help support the weight. Pretty much on a squat they still have to move the weight you just give extra support.

BTW- Spotting you would make a trip to the gym very worthwhile :p

+1. looks great!!
my neck is too thin and fragile for that. does the squat feel different with the bar held this way?

With the weight up high and a narrower stance like DT is using it's a more quad dominant movement. I carry the bar really low and have a much wider stance which incorporates more of the glutes and hamstrings. I also find it's much easier to maintain my arch with the weight lower.

oh thanks! that's exactly what i want, support to take control in case i lose control(guess that what a spotter is.lol). i have quivering legs all the time, but no sewing needles yet.

thanks scotts. good stuff. i wanna try it. probably going to do some squats a few time and have him supporting me as if i failed before squatting heavier, just to get an idea of how it'll feel.

p.s. my spotter will most likely end up being my gay friend.lol

oh nice, i do place the bar lower as well, but only cause thats probably the only place it can be supported comfortably.

It's a weird feeling the first time someone has to actually spot you to prevent failure. Usually for me as soon as I feel them touch me I start moving again.

Sounds kind of weird but having the bar feel "comfortable" is super important. Means you have it in the right spot for your body.

I train at 24 Hour Fitness and frankly, there isn't a single person there I'd bother to ask for a spot. There are probably only 3-4 people in the whole gym that use 3 plates on ANYTHING. I just kept my weights low until I was comfortable going rock bottom with no spotter. I always use the rack with the bailout bar on it though.

Squatting with a neck pad just makes the bar move around a lot more. Removing it hurts for a while, but you tune it out soon.

Pads are for those that do less than 2 plates... Nice job old man! JK
Good luck but I don't think you will need it as you should be able to hammer out 455 no problem!
