You're right. Some states consider the glovebox and trunk extensions of your home as far as searchs go. Technically, they can only "frisk" the passenger compartments ie-visibly look. Opening boxes and compartments is a no-no. The idea about locking the glove box and trunk and keeping the valet key is a great idea. The average street cop isn't going to go through the trouble of impounding the car and getting a warrant just to look into a glove box when he doesn't know whats in there. Good idea.
