building muscle whilst low carbing it (not keto)

hey guys,

ive let myself get more than a little smooth (chunky is the term), but im making great gains in the gym> my question is whether it is possible to continue making gains, but on a low carb diet.

i eat tons of protein, and at the moment im getting carbs from low gi fruits, wholegrains, nuts, seeds etc etc. but i am eating too much and i want to get a little cut.

is it possible to continue making solid gains on a very low carb diet (above a ketogenic state, but essentially v.low gi with most of my carbs coming from green veg and salads)

i know that one needs carbohydrate to fuel a work out, but in terms of post work out muscle growth, how essential are carbohydrate sources for muscle tissue growth.

if one has the energy, pumps and attitute to get a great workout in despite being low carb, will the low carb state effect the muscle growth afterwards.

i think you guys follow my drift.

any advice appreciated.

cheers

i know that one needs carbohydrate to fuel a work out, but in terms of post work out muscle growth, how essential are carbohydrate sources for muscle tissue growth. If you can get your body to start to burn it's fat stores it will use that for energy to fuel your workouts, it isnt the most efficient process. u should still get some high GI carbs for PWO to assist with growth. i suggest waxy maize.

if one has the energy, pumps and attitute to get a great workout in despite being low carb, will the low carb state effect the muscle growth afterwards. it can. PWO is in imo the most critical meal during the day. it is when your muscles are the most insulin sensitive. insulin serves as a transporter of vital nutrients to the muscles. the high gi carbs will give u the desired insulin spike needed. then drink your protein shake.

i think you guys follow my drift.

these questions you pose aren't as straight forward as my answers may appear. i am assuming u will be incorporating cardio.

these are diet forum questions, if u r planning to do this "naturally". speaking of which post up your diet.

if you confine your carbs to breakfast and post-workout, you'll have the best of both worlds - energy and fat burning.

just interms of the cutting issue,

the moderate carbs consumed in the AM will go first to replenishing depleated liver glycogen - not stored as fat

the carbs consumed post work out will go to replenishing depleated muscle glycogen NOT stored as fat (up to 80-90 grams simple carbs like dextrose or waxy maize starch or other high molecular weight carb)

in terms of anabolism, the PWO carbs serve to spike insulin to drive carbs and aminos into muscle cells fueling growth during the 60-90 minute "anabolic window". so doing without carbs here hurts your growth, and doesnt help you cut.

as an aside, dont be afraid to munch on walnuts and some healthy fats during the day for energy if you have the dual goal of cutting and growing.

also, use supplements that will increase insulin sensitivity and help keep fat from accumulating abdominally (rALA, Fish Oil, green tea extract, l-taurine)

Sure you can build muscle on low carb, just not as much.If you plan to get on cycle, these gains will obviously skyrocket

GREAT IDEA BRO...I WAS ONLY HAVING CARBS POST-WORKOUT ONLY (ON TRAINING DAYS), I WAS ON THE KETO DIET AND I DEFINITALY LOST MUSCLE AND MY ENERGY/STRENGTH WAS NOT AS GOOD...SO I ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR IDEA TO CARB UP IN THE MORNING AND CARB UP AFTER WORKOUTS...I THINK THE INCREASE IN CARB WILL JUST MAKE YOUR WORKOUT MORE INTENSE AND YOU MAY EVEN WOROUT TWICE IN A DAY JUST TO BURN THE EXTRA CALS...

SIDE NOTE: IM TAKING ENDOAMP,FISHOIL, GLUTAMINE, WHEY, MYOGENX, RITALIN(STIMULANT)

Yeah, I'm using carb cycling while on a cycle and am seeing good results - steady muscle growth without huge increases in abdominal fat (which would happen if I didn't restrict carbs).

For three days, I'll have about 250 grams of carbs which I consume mostly in the morning and PWO, while keeping protein and healthy fats high.

On the forth day, I'll bump up the carbs to about 450 grams and eat them in moderate quantities throughout the day, even in the evening.

awesome-

so as a response- ill get on the supps everyone sugested, like carnitine and stuff.

ill also carb up before a workout, and then just after. the rest of the time ill eat low carb.

ill let you know how it goes boys
