Bruised Front Delts

Started training with an olympic lifting coach a few weeks ago. Been doing front squats - with weight less than HALF what I had been doing regular PL-style squats with!!! (amazing how much harder it is go to all the way down vs. to parallel).

My front delts & collar bones hurt sooo bad! They are not dark & visibally bruised, but this week & last week, after doing them, it hurt for days. (I did back squats my other training days) This week I figured it might be better as I start to get used to it, but it was worse. I could barely focus on my squat form with the agony on my front delts.

Anyone else experience this? How long do you think it will take untill I feel the front squats more in my lower body as opposed to the front delt & collar bone pain?!

Thanks!

oh I don't doubt that it does. My coach said the same thing, "Yup, you are bruised, but it goes away - you'll get used to it".

I'm just wondering HOW LONG it takes to go away?! I was surprised that it was WORSE the 2nd week - I thought it would have been better the 2nd time.

Thats relative to the individual, like anything else. Up your vitamin C intake and it might help. you can also make sure you have an extra tshirt on or a cut off sweatshirt if your gym is cool enough.

Thanks jayde! I train wearing tank tops - which I will continue to do since the gym has no AC & it's VERY hot in my city right now. So the bar is directly on the flesh of my front delts.

Yup - I snagged that avatar from Krista's site. I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen it more other places & no other chicks used it for an avatar! ;)

Have you tried using a Manta Ray for front squats? This is a good peice of equipment. Its about $50 and it can save your delts from that front squat pain. www.elitefts.com sells them I think or just type Manta Ray in a search engine

Spatts - no I didn't get that e-mail!! Could you try sending them again?

I sorta figured I needed my front delts to toughen up - since I'm intending to learn the entire olympic lifts - although I was kinda wondering how I was going to get callouses there!!! But I hadn't considered that doing the full clean & jerk - I don't have the bar racked for as LONG as a set of front squats. - perhaps I'll talk to my coach about that nifty item. Although I probably should continue to do the front squats in the clean grip, rather than that cross arm grip - so maybe that's not gonna work.

Actually I did them again today & it wasn't that bad. I'm not moving lots of weight (yet), so I should be able to get used to it.
