TAMPA, Fla. — Former pro wrestling champion Brian "Crush" Adams died Monday after he was found unconscious in his home. He was 44.

He showed no visible signs of injury and foul play was not suspected, police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said. Authorities were awaiting autopsy results from the medical examiner before proceeding with their investigation.

Adams' wife, who was not identified, found her husband not breathing and called 911 about 11 a.m. Fire Rescue workers later pronounced him dead, McGregor said.

Adams, a former world tag team champion, last performed for the World Wrestling Federation in 2001 and served intermittently on the roster beginning in 1990, World Wrestling Entertainment said. WWE spokesman George Cabico had no further comment.

Adams death comes less than two months after pro wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife and son before hanging himself on the cable of a weight machine in his Georgia home. Prescription anabolic steroids were found in the family's home, raising questions about whether the drugs played a role in the killings.

I was just reading a list of wrestlers that died under 50 there was alot trying to find the link. Crush had some great battles with Doink the Clown.

I can't think of any other career where you can burn the candle at both ends like a pro wrestler. First off you start off working for free, often paying for transportation and hotel out of your own pocket for years. Then if you finally do get a contract and become a big thing, you're on the road 300 days a year. Add to that the physical demands of the sport itself and a lot of pain killers to numb the pain from injuries. Then you gotta figure it isn't easy to eat right on the road and sleeping in different beds nighly has to take it's toll. I can only imagine the amounts of AS these guys use to keep up their physiques. Eventually this shit all adds up and bites them in the ass.

Some stuff a lot of peeps don't know about pro wrestling is the wrestlers are responsible for creating a character of their own. They are also responsible for writing their own scripts. That's like soap opera stars being responsible for their own lines on a day to day basis. That can't be easy. Also if a wrestler gets hurt, he has 3 months to recover or he takes a 50% cut in pay. If he's really fucked up, he is responsible for making a comeback in a non-wrestling role within a year or his contract is canceled!!!So basically if you get hurt too badly, you are forgotten about in a year!!! With all of this being said, how can wrestlers afford to not do juice and use painkillers??? Also being away from home so long has gotta depress some of the guys-so many are popping anti depressants too. In my early 20's I wanted to go to wrestling school in Georgia. At the time I was a security guard at a community college and they would host pro wrestling matches now and then. I met a few of the guys -Jake The Snake, The Road Warriors, and Paul Orndorf to name a few. Nice guys-but they all seemed like broken spirits. Most seemed unhappy, yet they were so caught up in being a superstar it didn't seem to matter. All I can say is being in that ring must be like being hooked on heroin. The pay is great at the top, but it seems like you need to sell your soul to prosper.

true brother, but i think usa financing lot's of atlets.in my country is not enough that you are the top in the state, or world champion, beside of that you must work and train.for example we all know Dejan Zavec he is the best world boxar in midle weight, and if Donald King would't finance him hmm I thing he would finish his carer by now.

I saw something on TV a while ago where they profiled wrestling and some of the old wrestlers. They had a piece on Jake The Snake and I think Terry Funk, where are they now type of thing. It was really pathetic - they'd drive to these little, small town shows making next to nothing, I'm sure. Crowds of about 50 people...they just looked old, tired, and miserable, like they were just waiting to die. It was actually kinda sad.

Actually this is a relatively new phenom happening. If you go back to the old school wrestlers, they are still alive and kicking. Superfly, Hogan, Sammartino, etc...

Hell if anyone should be dead, it is Ric Flair. That man simply could party all night and then show up the next day and put on a match of his life. When he was in WCW, I would see him and a lot more WCW wrestlers at Chicagos Pizza in Atlanta on the nights the WWF had their pay per views. I swear to God Flair would drink at least 30 kamikazes in the 2 hours that pay per view was on. Plane crash, broken back, etc.. dude survived it all.

It is the younger stars that can't keep themselves together.

Luger - living in a friend's basement and looks like shit.
The Steiner bros - multi injuries/surgeries and still look like shit
Sting - dude is wearing a padded body suit at times, looks like shit
and these are just the stars still alive.

Tonight on HBO Sports(7pm mountain time) features the premature deaths of pro wrestlers. It should be interesting to see the steroid spin since Gumble is host. After Gumble doing the under hyped "The Truth About Steroids" episode, I'm curious as to what he'll have to say. Also, the same show is featuring underground dogfighting-which should also be of interest to all of the pitbull owners here like myself.
