Breast Implants

New member
i have a large chest for my body size, and i was considering getting a lift as well as implants just to keepmy size. Im a natural d-dd. I have been doing research so im not rushing into anything but i had some questions for you girls who have had the surgery:

1. have you gone under or over the muscle?

2. would you change anything about your surgery?

3. is anyone from the ny/long island area who would highly reccomend a surgeon?

any other info would be greatly appreciated.

i also never had ANY surgery done before and i wanted to know approx how long the procedure is, and you feel when you wake up.

I have not had my breasts done, but had a consult. With a lift + implant your scar will most likely look like this: --) (I have had other ps work done)

Your PS (plastic surgeon) will take pics, etc -- make sure you are comfortable with that person. Get a few different consults. It also helped me to watch the PS shows on TV as well as ps chat rooms.... like www.liposite.com -- although they appear to be only for lipo, the people in the chat room have had all sorts of surgery done & they are very nice.

As for after surgery........ Make sure that the person who is picking you up brings you Lifesavers or other hard candy & chapstick!! I had severe cottonmouth & cracked lips. The nurse will of course give you water, etc but I found it didn't help....... You may have trouble lifting your arms over your head & you really shouldn't right away, nor drive. You will be sore.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions....

A couple other excellent sites to help you do research, find a doc & talk with other people are:

www.implantinfo.com
www.implantforum.com

Implantinfo.com gives you basically a checklist of how to go about locating & researching a doc, checking his/her credentials & also if they've ever had any malpractice claims against them, etc.

Personally, I used implantinfo.com to guide my trek towards & following the surgery. I wanted to go from a very small B to a C-ish. I talked to 4 different docs in my area (these are usually free consults so USE them to determine if you are comfortable with the doc).

I went under the muscle, with a very light scar under the nipple. 36B to 36D. The pain was amazingly miserable the first day and part of the second day. The unders are a longer recovery period because they go into the muscle. But I didn't like the idea of the implant just sort of being held by only skin. Talk to people and doctors about which one you would prefer. The doc I chose also generally did unders. I think alot of FBBs get overs because the recovery time is very quick.

I think the surgery lasted a couple hours and then they moved me into the recovery room to sleep for a few more hours and then get my ride home. Definitely make sure you have a ride home because you CANNOT drive yourself. I'd say generally w/ unders the first 2 days suck the big one (and definitely use the painkillers!!!!!). It feels like an elephant standing on your chest. By Day 4 I was off the painkillers. I took a week off from work to recover. About a week after I stopped the painkillers I got unexplainably depressed - this was the detox from the painkillers. (After that experience I have HYUGE respect for what its like to come off of an addiction...)

You definitely don't want to and generally can't lift your arms above your shoulders. During the recovery period I moved all my dishes, etc. to the counter level so I wouldn't get stuck having to lift my arms high. Driving was what I had the most problem with because it was very hard (and hurt) to turn around like when backing up. Those things where I couldn't turn my whole upper body, just hurt. After 3 weeks 95% of the pain was gone. I went out dancing all night w/ no bra that weekend.

I started back in the gym in 3 weeks but stayed away from upper body. I sort of worked into upper body as it was comfortable. I started training for a BB competition 3 months after the surgery. My chest was definitely tight and took some work to loosen up the scar tissue from the implants, but it was all good :) I asked my doc before the surgery if there would be any impact to my ability to develop my pectorals and he said no. Granted the guy was not a specialist in strength training, but that is what he said. I can't say I've experienced anything that made me think it affected my chest development since then.

Two things that resulted from the surgery - I can't lay flat on my chest without it feelign weird and I have to strap 'em in REAL good to do any sort of bouncing or running.

I think if you check out the two websites above you will find almost everythign you could possibly need to educate yourself & make the decision.

Good luck!

^^ Thanks for posting those other sites, Sassy...... I couldn't remember the names of them!!

thanks so much.. i had another question which is important to me: i wanted to know for those who actually had the surgery, what type of anestesia you had.. im not too hot on the idea of being put completly out so i was considering the one where you are conscious but they give you local shots where the surgery would be taking place. i was curiouse if anyone ever had this type and what their experiences were

sorry to answer, cuz I didn't have the breast surgery, but with that type of surgery I don't think the local is an option......

I've had both types and came out of both right away. The side effects of the general were a little tough, but depending on the type of surgery you'll have, the dr. may not use any other type. He won't want you to move around which you can do under local/twilight.

Eek. Do they actually do local anesthesia for breast augmentations??? Man, I just wanted to be out cold. I had foot surgery several years ago & I remember distinctly when the doc started poking at my big toe with something sharp while the drugs were still taking over. I also remember kicking back LOL! I've also had some gum surgery where they just gave me an Ambien to get me sort of sleepy and then brought out the mongo novacaine shot. Goddammit I hated that. I had a total of 4 surgeries for reconstructive gum surgery & I demanded a knock out for the other 3. Yuk.

But to that point, when you are interviewing docs, make sure they have clearance to work w/ a qualified hospital and also have no history of issues w/ the anesthesia. Actually I never thought about it - but u usually pay the anesthetist directly, separately from the doc - I imagine if you got the person's name, you could also verify their credentials & also any malpractice history. I think there's a very small chance of problems w/ the anesthesia but it can still happen, so if you choose to go that way you can verify the facts about the organization's ability to handle a problem if one does happen, and also determine if there's been aproblem in the past. Definitely ask them directly when you interview the doc during your consult.

And with both the guys who use anesthesia and whoever you find who uses only local, ask if you can talk to some of their patients. Just as you would want for yourself, the doc protects the privacy of his patients, but they will usually offer to give your name & phone number to previous patients who agree to relate their experience and the person will call you. I had one place tell me they would only let me talk to one of their patients after I paid for the surgery (dont' remember if it was the whole fee or the deposit). I didn't go back to that guy. I think that's bullshit personally.

^^ For my first plastic surgery, I had blood work & stuff done well beforehand to eliminate any problems....

Also the anesthesiologist quizzed me the day of surgery -- they are very serious when they say NO food or drink for 12 hours.....he said he would have cancelled had I had anything.....

My surgery was 1 global fee of $5k -- included everything.....

I was a 36D when I went in for surgery and came out a 36DD, lift and implants and only went up one size, just what I wanted. I used to be a JJ when I nursed my daughter for a year so the lift was definitely needed. I went under the muscle to help prevent future sagging and so I could have regular mamograms in the future, if you go over the muscle they can't do mamograms, instead they do ultrasounds which aren't quite as good for cancer detection. I will describe under the muscle implant post-op pain like this...imagine taking a big softball and shoving it under your pec muscle, it stretches the muscle over the implant and hurts like a SOB! The first few days after surgery really sucked but just stay on the pain meds and you'll get through it. I was put out for the surgery and I think it took a little over 4 hrs. After the surgery you'll get shooting pains out of nowhere but they go away as fast as they come on. The most annoying thing post-op for me was constipation for the week after surgery. I just didn't have to poop and wound up having to use metamucill and soppositories to clean myself out just to feel human again. I also used a step stool when I was cooking and preparing food in the kitchen so I didn't have to reach my arms up (I'm short). I don't react badly to anestessia so when I woke up I was just kind of groggy and dizzy. After I got home I guess it was like I was a bit drunk. Hubby went to pick up my daughter from school and I wound up walking around my back yard and visiting with a neighbor on her patio. LOL
